When we vacation, I can't continually "eat out". If I try, I feel bad 3-4 days in....
We often stay somewhere with a kitchen and home cook 50-60% of the time. On our current trip I brought a thermapen and zyliss garlic press, my wife chuckeled at me until I made her some galic bread with fresh pressed garlic and made a nicely cooked ribeye on a "foreign" grill.
What's on your "must have" accessory list while cooking "away"?

My Thermapen is pretty much what comes with me everywhere. I keep one in my truck too.
If I am driving somewhere, I make sure to take my Field or Smithey Cast Iron skillet with me. I also throw my butane stove in the truck, because you get a ton of heat in a small package, perfect for the cast iron.

Knife kit, Thermapen, a good waiter's corkscrew, and my iPhone (loaded with kindle cookbooks ... including Meathead's, Franklin's, Raichlen's, and a plethora () of others) ...
smokenoob - yep, I check them. They are in a knife bag (and they are my "second string" set in case they somehow disappear). Generally I carry a chef's knife, a boning knife, and (sometimes) a paring knife, along with a steel.
They are all protected from damage (to the knives and to a clumsy TSA person) by blade savers.
All kidding aside Noob, we used to book vacations thru VBRO rentals. I always brought along my Smokey Joe and my LaCrueset pot. The Joe for steaks and the pot for stews like gumbo. Typically the houses we'd rent (btw the last one we rented was over your way in Gulf Shores !!), they had some sort of gasser as well.
Unfortunately SWMBO now has decided that because her girl friends all go to the all-inclusive resorts, that's where we have gone the last couple of years. Like you said in your post, it's great for about 2-3 days then you start thinking about barbeque, and more barbeque and when can I get my barbeque fix. Know what I mean Vern ????
Troutman yeah, driving makes it easy, lottsa room for pit accessories! We flew this time and I'm feelin' nakid in the pit! Not a lotta Q in Maine You get to Gulf Shores again, lemee know!
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

Depends which type of getaway I'm on, but for me it's typically: 1) Jumbo Joe and either the Thermapen or ThermoPop; 2) Coleman stove with frying pan & Lodge griddle specifically for it; 3) beer cooler with its namesake beverage inside. Also can't forget the blue nitrile gloves Spinaker.
Always with me on any kind of outdoorsy trip is my Stanley toolbox. In it are my Mavericks, Thermapen/Pop, lighter, lighter cubes, tongs & spatula, griddle scrapers, gloves, S&P, PAM, wood chunks, food scissors, knife, Weber mini chimney, and bottle opener & can coolers. There's even room in it if I choose to put a small garbage bag of charcoal in there.
Next week I will be tent glamping (electricity & showers since wife will be there) and will be taking said gear, maybe even my PBC.
Depends what type of vacation it is. Wife fly's to Mexico every year for the all inclusive thing with friends. I won't go there for a number of reasons so she travels with friends. When we go together it's usually with the motor home and I always tow my traveling kitchen behind it!
Thermapen & a well sharpened knife. I might be going on a little trip solo soon. Then it will be the works, Smokey joe, t-pen, knife, tongs etc. for camping with my canoe.

We usually rent a cabin in the mountains or a house on a coast wherever we vacation (6 of us). Over the past 25 years I've got it down to a temp probe, griddle and my seasonings. Most places we go have either a gas or charcoal grill and sometimes both. If they don't I can always throw down a few rocks for a fire pit and cook on the griddle.
