    Rib racks

I currently use the Weber rib rack when smoking more than 2 racks of ribs on my 26 inch kettle. However, I am less than enthusiastic about it (and pretty much every rib rack out there). Simply put, the racks are not wide enough. They hold the middle section of ribs OK, but the ends of the racks just flop over and end up touching the adjacent ribs. I thought about just buying a second rack and put them next to each other to prevent that from happening. Has anyone found a good rib rack out there that will support the entire width of a rack?

I quit using rib racks altogether when I found out you can just bend the rack of ribs to form a ring, with the ends pinned together with a skewer. Capacity increases tremendously when you do this. You just flip and rearrange periodically like you would with rib racks.

Really like Steve R.'s approach, you could also think out of the box a little and make your own rack?

I actually got that idea on here somewhere. I believe it was David Parrish.

Those racks do look nice! I've used the webber racks end to end but it's not the best solution.johnsteen did they charge $20 for shipping?

I cooked 5 SLC on the WSM 18 last weekend using the Weber racks. 2 1/2 on top and 2 1/2 on bottom. In each rack I put 2 in a U-shape and the 5th rack I cut in half and put each half in the end of each rack. I don’t particularly like it that way but I had no choice. People surprisingly ate them anyway 😎!!

I use this one from BGE, when I am doing rib in the Egg. These are really wide, so they are perfect for beef ribs.

In the Netherlands we use this item from the IKEA and it is very popular! You remove the plastic caps easily and than you have a fantastic adjustable rib-rack. In the USA its called "VARIERA pot lid organizer"
Its standard equipment here in the Netherlands and its completely stainless steel! And the costs......unbelievable!

Two of those for $14 would be hard to beat.

Shoot, I'm using that rib rack of Spinaker's as a pot lid holder!

If you don't have skewers, you can cut halfway through opposite ends of the rack and interlock them to form your coil. I wish I had a picture to help explain what I'm talking about. The next time I smoke some ribs I will take a pic to show you what I mean.

You could also use your interlocking method with the rib racks above and make an H pattern to doble up the ribs. Or just buy a bigger pit!!

Wow that Ikea idea is great! Looks like I could use 2 of those, hold my loooong racks of ribs VERY securely with 4 points of contact on each, and could do 6 racks of ribs on just one level of my Yoder YS480. I could probably do about the same with my Traegar, too. I could do as many as 12 racks at a time, I don't think there's room to add it in the top grate on my Yoder with that method, or I could do even more! But dang, 12 racks of ribs would be awesome! And with 4 of those holders, I'm still WAY cheaper than $60 for a rib rack from Southern Steamers!

Thanks Lavadore ! You da man!

You can also use the Ikea idea to keep items submerged while cooking sous vide. They allow for water flow between multiple items. I learned this trick here in the PIT.

I love this! It works great! I've done 5 racks of baby backs and 2 racks of spares. I think it worked better with 2 racks.

Oh, man, so THAT is what that thing is! I bought one a long time ago, and couldn't remember where or when I got it. I'm using it in the pantry closet as a rack for holding pot lide!

Wonder if that Ikea thing is food safe. Here is the list of materials that are shown for it.
              Main parts/ Rivet/ Tubes/ Screw/ Washer: Stainless steel
              Bumpers: Synthetic rubber

Synthetic rubber would melt I imagine and it says nothing about it being food grade stainless.
