Calling all griddle chefs, what do you call it.........

What do you call the domed "lid" used to cover burgers on a griddle to speed up the melting of cheese? I've seen several variations on videos. I normally use an 8" aluminum mixing bowl. It would be handy to have a handle attached but the Commodore is unwilling to let me convert one of her mixing bowls. I have searched the internet for one but I don't know what to call it.

      Go figure!

Another option is to pick yourself up a Smokey Joe and use the lid.

Go to a goodwill or thrift store look for a wok lid or something similar

I purchased these magnets with the knob on top.

Then get yourself a handful of steel washers. Now you can use any size aluminum foil pan. Put the magnetic knob on top of the pan and the steel washer on the inside of the pan so the magnet grabs the washer and now you have a aluminum pan with a handle on top.
Works great and is much cheaper plus you have different size pans for different jobs. I use a full size pan for doing a large batch of hash browns when I want to melt cheese on them. A half size pan when melting cheese on one or two burgers.

Great idea. I really didn't want to pay $25 or $30 for those covers.

My buddy ran a popular diner and I went back with him while he cooked many times. He just used skillet lids, the old beaten & dented thin aluminum skillet lids. Not sure they ever had a name other than skillet lid, lol.

Amazon has a ton of those magnets. I tried to link to the ones I bought but I couldn't get the link to post in my message for some reason. Everything I tried to type after the link became part of the link. Weird. Go to Amazon and search Master Magnetics

I have used a wok lid (I think that is what customtrim is using).

I used to be a division manager for Waffle House, we called it a dome as I recall. I still have nightmares about those days nearly 20 years ago!

I call it a cover. If you are looking for one which is affordable Corvus (but not as cheap as the thrift store) Blackstone has a nice set on the website and I own one of them. I can share a pic over the weekend if you want, but its an inverted bowl with a handle.

Also Corvus and anyone who goes the griddle way, there is a thread for griddle grilling here:
Discussion of flat-top standalone grills & griddles, like Blackstone and Cuisinart for example. For flat top griddle inserts, see Accessories or the grill channel that the insert goes with.

I would love to see it gain some momentum, so share what you are cooking please-

I use tongs and various sizes SS bowls depending on how many I have on the flat top. No secret. Just practicality.

Same here, I often cook eggs in egg rings and if I'm not careful while lifting the bowl with a spatula I'll also catch the edge of an egg ring and...... well let's say that the Commodore is particular about her round eggs!!!! Having a dedicated melting lid solves that problem! Thx

Corvus I feel you. If the bowl is not near the edge, the spat needs to be in the other hand or else the tuna, pastrami or onions go flying and they stick like Napalm.
