What thermometers/temp controllers do you have, and which is your favorite?

    Mine:

    Thermapen
    knockoff Thermapen
    Maverick 732
    Maverick 733
    Thermoworks Chef Alarm
    DigiQ DX2
    Taylor stick thermometer
    2 Taylor digital meat thermometers

I use the Maverick 733 and the DigiQ the most, but I really don't like the 733; I think the 732 is easier to use, even if the 733 is more versatile. The DigiQ is a workhorse, but it is BGE compatible only; I'm not drilling my kettle.

The Taylors are from before I went hardcore. They all work fine, but they've been superseded by the others. I don't really need them, I never do 6 roasts at a time.

The Thermapen gets used a lot for steaks, burgers, and chickens, and to spot check briskets. Nice tool.

The Thermapen knockoff was something like $3, and it is surprisingly good and accurate. I use it when I can't find the Thermapen.

The ChefAlarm is not as versatile as the others, but it is my favorite of all because of the build quality and display readability. And I love that semi-hard case it comes in. That is one quality tool.

    Mine:
    • 1 Thermapen
    • 3 ChefAlarms
    • 1 IR-Gun-S
    • 1 old Williams Sonoma ChefAlarm knockoff that still measures within a degree of the real ChefAlarms
    • As of Christmas, a new Thermoworks Smoke ... and, in company with the Thermapen, it will soon become my new favorite leave-in

      We are pretty close...

      Thermapen
      knockoff Thermapen (Cooper)
      Maverick 732
      DigiQ DX2
      Taylor digital 2 probe
unknown digital probe (my first ever)

I just got the DQ and have only used it once with my komado. I may drill my kettle. We'll see how my SNS Works out, first.

I use the Maverick for everything big and the Thermapen for everything else. My knockoff is also pretty good and for the money (whatever it was) is a better deal than the Thermapen, I think.

I have only used the Taylor once or twice since I got the Maverick, when I have done more than one hunk of meat.

        Thermapen MK IV
        Classic Thermapen
        Chef's Alarm
        Smoke
        Maverick 732

My favorites are the Thermoworks Smoke and Thermapen MK IV. Prior to the Smoke I owned two Maverick 732's but once I used the Smoke I gave one of the 732's (with brand new probes) to my son. The Smoke is clearly a superior unit to the Maverick.

Mosca, Tom, I have a Thermapen Classic, a Maverick 733, an iGrill Bluetooth (Won't Work for Me, Steel Siding on the House) and the FireBoard and about a Dozen Cheap Dial Thermometers! I also have the BBQGURU DigiQ-Dx-2 temp control with both the Viper and Pit Bull Fans! I shouldn't do this Tom because it will change my luck! The attached Pics are of the Boneless Prime Rib Roast I cooked Yesterday with the Weber Kettle, S 'n S, DigiQ-Dx-2, and Drip & Griddle!

Depends on the amount of yeast and hops lubrication needed for true accuracy.

I recently got a PartyQ, my first ever controller, and I'm loving it. I may step up to a CyberQ at some point, but the PartyQ is more than adequate for my Weber kettle.

Brother, You "SAID IT ALL" on the Thermapen! I wish I had a Thermapen MK-4 like yours, the ability to use and read it up or inverted and still be able to read it is a + Feature! Damn My Scotch Ancestory!

Dan, I also like the "instant-on" feature when you pick it up, and the automatic backlight.

I have a Classic Thermapen, a Thermoworks Smoke and a Thermoworks infrared. Very happy with all three (I just changed the batteries on the Thermapen after 4 years).

The thermapen works like a champ, the silicone cover is turning brown from absorbing smoke, despite many attempts to clean it.
The Smoke works well and is built like a tank.
I haven't really used the infrared much.

A Taylor single probe with remote.
                  A Thermopop for the kitchen
Another Thermoworks instant read in my grill box
                  A maverick 732 - haven't used yet

                  BF loves the Taylor.

                    I'll play,

                    I have a
Ivation (looks just like a maverick)732
                    Thermoworks Smoke
                    Thermoworks Thermopop
and a bunch of other crap I wasted money on before I started reading forums.

I have a question for you people with the smoke. Have you done anything to get the probes into the grill/smoker, or just careful when closing the lid on the cords.

My WSM has that 1 inch silicone thing that is perfect, but my 3/8 grommets that I use to pass the Maverick probes though won't let that bump by. Just wondering how others are doing it.

Have you tried passing the Smoke connector end through? I have holes drilled on my kettles and had to do that a time or two when I was using 3 or 4 probes.

I have used my Smoke in kitchen oven, and Weber 22. So far, I am just careful closing the lid. No problems yet.
