My Son, Shawn, Gifted Me for Christmas a New 9.5" Shogan Series Chef Knife by Dalstrong.

The blade is 9.5" Precision Forged Japanese V-G 10 "Super Steel" at 62+ Rockwell Hardness! It has 66 Layers of High Carbon Stainless Steel Cladding forged to it! The Handle is black and made of ultra-premium G-10 Garolite(?) per Dalstrong! Boy and Girls the Shine and Finish on this Knife are Extraordinary! I believe Shawn Purchased it on Amazon and I hope at a discount from the MSRP of $299.99! In the beginning that was 2 Weeks Pay @ $1.25/Hr? Dalstrong publishes that each Shogan Knife spends 60 Days on the Production Line!

Very nice. I'd be afraid to use it for fear of marring the finish though.

It's beautiful! Don't let it be a drawer queen, it's supposed to be used. Don't Japanese knives have a different sharpening angle than US and European knives?

I looked these knives up when I saw this thread. Pretty sure I saw that they have a 12 degree edge. I think most are 15-18 degrees.

Danjohnston949 - Happy New Years to you and yours, too!. My boy is in town from Houston/Galveston to visit. BBQ'd steaks last night, chicken wings tonight, lamb next and then ribs. He said "No brisket. Too much where I come from. We've got to teach those folks down there tri-tip" HA!

Nice looking knife. Comes with a keychain and what appears to be a shining cloth. Also, a free VIP membership. What does the VIP membership get you?

That is awesome. With that steel layered like it is it should stay razor sharp for a long time.

The layered steel gives it strength, not sharpness. Still, VG10 will stay sharp for a long time with regular "steeling" - but I recommend you get a ceramic "steel" instead of a metal one.

Great knife, Dan. It'd be a shame to put it in a display case and not to let it do what it was made for ... carefully, of course! Congrats!
