    Instant Pot Anyone Using One

I read an article about an electric pressure cooker/slow cooker called the Instant Pot. It seems to have a large satisfied user base. Anyone here have one? I'd like to hear some real world experience before I pull the trigger.

I have an electric pressure cooker and a stove top one. Nothing else does quite the same thing. But can't comment on the Instant Pot, as I've only seen ads.

Hey Ed, do you have a preference for the electric or stove top cooker? I think I need one of these in my life.

You'll find several Instant Pot users here in the Pit. Just enter "instant + pot" (skip the quotes and be sure to add a space between the words and the "+" sign) into the search box and you'll find them quickly.

I use a very similar electric pressure cooker from Cuisinart. Some models of the Instant Pot have more functions. I use it for stew and split pea soup primarily.

OOOh I love doing Split Pea Soup in my electric Pressure cooker!! (I run mine a little short cause I like the peas to have a little crunch to them!! Sooo good!)

We have one and use it often. First it cooks brown rice at least 30 minutes faster than our rice cooker did, plus it does really well as a crock pot so we got rid of both of those. Now being to brown meats before slow cooking is also nice. it will steam veggies as well but i have to say we don't do that much.

I think I'm going to get a 5 quart for the Travato. I carry a small crock pot to keep sauces hot at contests and I like the idea of multi-purpose devices.

You may want to consider an 8qt if you're using it as a pressure cooker, because you can typically only fill it 2/3 of the way. More versatile. Not much disadvantage, even if you're traveling with it.

I have one and use it quite a bit. JKLA's green chili chicken in the IP is AWESOME!!! I also use it to cook chicken bones down to mush, along with vegi scraps and other meat scraps, to supplement my dog's food. He loves it! Makes stock so easy to make. I've also done JKLA's short boneless short ribs for a 40 min weeknight meal.

They Y chrome bought me a nice 8 quart Fagor stovetop pressure cooker for Christmas. I thought about the electric but, I really prefer the stove top. no muss, no fuss, no electronics to go out on me and leave me with a new garden planter instead. We use it for small Stock batches to make soups ar stews for a single event when we don't really want to cook a giant pressure canner full of stock. I am planning to try the roasted, caramelized root soup in Modernist Cuisine. the first recipe is for caramelized carrot soup. I'm looking forward to making the same thing with butternut squash and sweet potatoes.

Oooh game changer. I hadn't thought about doing stocks in a pressure cooker, we have been doing them the old fashioned way with a big old pot and time. What sort of cooking time are you looking at for stocks in a pressure cooker?

Fowl, 1 1/2 hour, beef & pork 2 hours. once up to pressure. natural cool down. while it's cooling, slice some Vidalias and caramelize them and toast off the bread for French Onion soup for Dinner that night.

Honestly if I'm not Q'n, I'm using my IP. I love that thing! There is a whole IP community on FB if your are in to that sort of thing. Endless meals you can cook. Using mine tonight for a big batch of Navy Beans and hocks. Takes all of 30 minutes.

I've got a stove top (Fagor) and an electric pressure cooker (an Instant Pot). Hard to beat the electric pc for set and forget operation.

Bumper The electric is really awesome for making rice, of all things. Takes 15 minutes from grabbing butter, salt, water rice, browning the rice and cooking it. And it's always perfectly cooked. The Cuisinart we have has a timer and a number of heat settings, so it's easy to use and easy to clean.

The stovetop one is probably more versatile because you have more control over the temps, and there are more models to choose from.

Whatever you get, pick up a copy of Lorna Sass "Pressure Perfect". May want to get it first because it has a buying guide in it.

I have a Fagor stovetop cooker/canner. My go to in it is risotto. I've also used it as a pressure canner for some low acid items, like greens & beans.

I wrote a recipe for making Chile Colorado in the Instant Pot using smoked pulled beef chuck here:
