I setup to do some smoking this last weekend. I use an iGrill2 to monitor temps. When I went to open the app on my Android phone, it told me there was a new app and that I needed to upgrade. I did so. But the new app is horrible compared to the old one, and it is not possible to downgrade. I called Weber customer support, and they claimed I was the first user to complain about this.
Anyone else seeing this and unhappy about it? BTW, Weber customer support: 1-800-446-1071
Thanks for the heads up. My phone crapped the bed last week and I just received my new phone last night. I have yet to download the iGrill2 app, but I will definitely give it a go when I get home tonight for a test drive.
Check out the reviews of the new Weber app at the Google Play Store. The consensus seems to be that the new app "sucks" and that it has rendered the igrill2 useless.
I have to say that I agree.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could get someone with a little pull to harass Weber about it. Hey, Meathead!
I know. I called weber and mentioned the google play store reviews, and they claimed that I was the first user to call in and complain. This has made my igrill2 pretty much useless.

Why? What issues has the app raised and what features have you lost?
Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.
(1) I can no longer zoom in or out on the graphs. I list this first because it is by far my biggest problem with this "upgrade ." Zooming in and out is very useful at various times during a cook.
(2) Where the graphs used to be precise and accurate, they now do not update to the correct temperatures in real time, sometimes disagreeing with the correct temperature by several degrees.
(3) What used to be a nice sharp curve on the graph now looks as if it were drawn with a big fat 1st grader's crayon.
(4) When monitoring a temperature range, the graph no longer displays the lower range limit.
(5) The scale displayed on the "Y" axis of the graph is in unusual increments and is unchangeable, making interpolating the value displayed difficult.
(6) The black background with the white numerals is uncomfortable to look at (as is a TV with the brightness turned up too high) and at night is hard on my night vision.
(7) Connectivity seems to be lost more easily than before, and, when reconnected, the alarm sounds. This happens several times during even a short cook.
Exactly what JCWhite said. What was a reasonably nice tool has now become something that I would have never bought in the first place had I been able to try it out.
I use my igrill2 with my KBQ. Before the upgrade I would see a nice sawtooth waveform, as the draft fan cycled on and off. Pretty consistent and reassuring. I would keep the zoom at the same setting, and just check the far right of the graph now and then. Now, there is no zoom. So during a 4 hour cook, everything gets mushed together, and *there is no zoom*. So you cannot see at all what is going on. It is seriously broken.
What makes it even worse, is that you cannot downgrade, and cannot even avoid the "upgrade". As soon as you try and connect to your device, you are forced to upgrade the app.
I used my iGrill2 over the weekend on two 5 lbs arm roasts and didn't have a problem for the 12 hours of operation. Granted I have never used the graph function nor do I really care to so for that portion of the app I have no comment. For the $60 I paid for this unit which included 4 probes (@DWCowles was in on the same deal), I am very content with its operation. However, the one thing that bothered me a little bit was how the app tied up my phone and rendered virtually useless for any other operation. For example, trying to view The Pit it would take what seemed like an eternity for a page to load. After the app was shut down I didn't have any problems with other apps loading. Going forward could I recommend this device to someone else who would pay $100 for just 2 probes? Probably not.
I think that may be where Weber is headed with this - make a simpler app, and don't worry about losing more complex functions like graphing.
My decision to buy the Smoke was heavily influenced by my newfound lack of trust in the readings coming from the igrill. I simply don't believe it is accurate - if I were you, I would verify that it is updating and reading accurately. The Smoke also provides far superior range, which is helpful to me and worth the extra $$.
if you click on the circle which displays the temperature, it will go to the small graph. If you click on the small graph, it will turn into a full screen graph.
