    Oven Liner For Spills

Have any of you used oven liners in your oven? Mine is an electric oven with a heating element about 1” to 1 1/4” from the oven bottom. It’s a self cleaning oven and last week I cleaned it and then wiped all the dried residue out. The next time I used it was for broiling some toast and…..apparently the butter melted through the bread and left a big smoky mess on the bottom the next time I used the oven. I should have put the bread on some foil in hindsight. After going online there’s lots of liners, but also conflicting instructions on where to place the mat. Some say put it on the bottom rack and some say it’s ok to put it on the bottom of the oven, under my heating element. They say they’re safe up to 500*. I never cook over 425* so I should be good there, but, I’m worried about a liner that’s only one inch from the heating element. Anyway, does anyone have experience using oven liners? Do you like em and if so, what brand could you recommend?

Electric here too. The elements are on top and we have aluminum foil on the bottom. Dumb question, how do you broil with elements on the bottom?

I have elements on the top and bottom of my oven. I have a Broil feature and a Bake feature. Bottom element is for baking and top is for broiling. You don’t have a bottom heating element? I’ve never given it much thought but I thought all electric ovens were like mine….🤷‍♂️

      No just the top.

I broil with elements on the bottom and top too. Sometimes with convection to brown things ASAP. Works great. I have a top and bottom broil setting.

I just lay foil on the bottom rack. Since I got the Air Fryer I've hardly used the big electric beast.

I thought about that Jerod but I was concerned with it blocking the heat from rising since my Baking element is on the bottom. Never tried it so I don’t know how it would work, unless I left a few inches open around the sides. I’d still rather try an oven mat if it can stand the heat just an inch or so from the element.

Panhead John yes, I put just enough to catch drippings so the good heat could get around

I put a 16" C.I. flat top in the bottom of my electric oven. Catches drips and gives me much more stability concerning heat.
BTW. wrap it in foil. If yer cooks are sloppy, no worries.

Thanks Bruce. I’m looking for a liner so I can cover the entire bottom of the oven, I really don’t wanna put something on the bottom rack. The liners are supposed to be re-usable and easy to clean.

My baking steel sits on the bottom rack, and it's covered in foil.

Oops. I make toast in the oven. I hate toaster crumbs on the counter.

      MOST CONFUSING WARRANTY EVER….🙄

I ordered some oven liners the other day and they just got here. After opening the package I discovered a warranty card they enclosed……

Lifetime Guarantee or 12 months, whichever comes first…….

This was on the back of the card. They offer a 30 day money back guarantee or a 60 day replacement of the product. Then they say ….any issues of the product within 60 days replacement or refund will be provided. Damn people, make up your mind! 🙄 30 days, 60 days, 12 months, lifetime guarantee…....😂 Luckily it was only $10.

Our POS Samsung doesn't have an exposed element on the bottom and, if memory serves, the manual states that no liner or foil should be used on the oven bottom.

Yeah, from what I’ve read online, some ovens have a hidden element in the bottom and liners/foil can trap the heat and ruin the oven.

We bought a Whirlpool double oven about 3 years ago when ours gave up. It doesn't have an open/exposed heating element on the bottom. I believe when reading up on it they said not to cover the bottom in foil. I keep a pizza stone on the bottom rack that takes care of any drippy stuff, but I use a pan or vessel for my food 99.999% of the time anyways. The stone helps act as a heat sink too, regulating the oven's temp/helping to keep it stable.

Mine has an exposed heating element on the bottom and after giving it some thought, I’m not going to take a chance and place the liner underneath it. Some sites said it’s ok to place a liner underneath it but I’m not going to chance it. The liner would only be about 1 inch from the element. I’m just gonna cut it, leaving airflow room, and put it on my bottom rack.

We are in a rental townhouse with an electric oven. Our landlord recommended buying these to protect from this type of spill. Sorry I didn’t see this post until now!

I'll bet some of those drip pans from SNS would do the trick! But, pricey! Anyway, I always use the top rack for oven stuff, then put a sacrificial baking sheet underneath on the bottom rack.

Now, my oven is gas, and heats from the "very" bottom, so I don't have heating elements to worry about. But, I rarely like cleaning it, and it can get nasty down there so the drip pan saves me some work. And smoke, in the house...

You got a top and bottom rack, right?

Panhead John yeah, there's times when I need both racks, so at that point, I'm just taking my chances! Get a third rack if you can, set it to the very bottom, and put the baking pan on it. At least then, you have two racks to work with.

I tried one once that goes in the bottom of the oven (mine has no exposed elements) and it cause my oven temp to spike up WAY higher than I set it. Never used one since.

Used to be a “line the bottom with foil” guy, but have been more of a “put a baking dish or cookie sheet (with sides) bigger than the food at the bottom” guy for a while.

I still make messes in the oven. 🤷‍♂️

Do check the care instructions for your oven. Our old LG had no problem with a liner in the bottom to catch spills (under the elements), but in our Wolfs its an absolute no-no, especially no foil.
