Well, I am going to buy one, not sure which one. Which do you prefer, and why?

SoundDude, I could very well be "Biased" or at the Least Opnionated! As I own a S 'n S and have never even seen a Smokenator?

I would say hands down the Slow n Sear. The Smokenator is a wonderful product. But the water pan is very small, it is more difficult to add charcoal on longer cooks, and you can't sear with it. The SnS holds a quart of water, provides easy two-zone cooking setup, and will put a sear on like crazy!
      Just my 2 cents worth.

I've used both and I agree with what Thunder77 said.

Add me to the SnS crowd. I also have both and won't use the Smokenator again. In addition to what's mentioned above, the Smoke. needs hourly tending at the minimum. There is no "water baffle" between the coals and the pit, so heat radiates to the indirect side so you have to flip or move the meat around to keep it from burning on one side. I did a pork butt a while back using the SnS, and did not lift the top for 10+ hours.

If I were able to have a kettle, SNS based on reading a ton of the Pit.

Guys, I voted neither. I have no need for either one. BUT, were I to need one, it's going to be the SnS hands down. I may give an SnS to my brother to whom I gave my kettle some years ago.

Haven't used Smokenator since SnS purchased. Cast vote for SnS.

I didn't vote BECAUSE, after having used the Smokenator (and I do like it) for about a year, I found there were many times while using it that I was wishing for access to the hot side for a sear without having to remove the cooking grate AND the Smokenator and then return the cooking grate to the kettle. My SnS XL arrived 3 days ago and I have the feeling that my opinion will be much the same as bcumber, I probably won't use the Smokenator from here on out.

I painted my Smokenator red so I can see it when I take target practice with it

No kettle here, so no vote. That said, I think that the general consensus is that the SnS is the best choice. It's not rocket science but it IS thermodynamics ...

SnS hands down. Did 1 failed calibration with the Smokenator and now it sits in the box.

I've used both. Slow N Sear is the winner for all the reasons noted in other replies. Simply a superior product.
