This would be a wife purchase as I am not a huge fan of guacamole. That said, watching them make guacamole table side with a mortar and pestle at a Mexican place is super fun. It does generate some of the best guacamole I have had.

Tap into your inner caveman with this guacamole recipe: My favorite kitchen tool is my stone mortar and pestle. It sits proudly on my kitchen counter, holding its own in a caveman-esque sort of wa…

Mosca I always skipped those recipes as well. But grinding things releases flavor in a very special way so I am so glad I finally bought one. Steve R can't wait to hear your results.

Sometimes I pour rubs into mine that are a bit "chunky' and grind them into a finer dust. But herbs ground in this thing seem to come alive in a special way.

My instructions said to start with coarse grinding several handfuls of white rice, until they grind white instead of gray. Mine ground all white right from the start, but I did three reps anyhow.

Andrrr I didn't do anything to break mine in. Probably a mistake, but I've used it so much now that it doesn't matter anymore.

I have a small, wooden one that was my mother's. I use it every now and then. But then, a lot of items in my kitchen were my mother's.....Wooden mixing spoons, CI skillets, card catalog, wooden saltshaker & matching pepper mill, etc. They will be handed down to my kids someday.

I have one and it looks just like yours, but mine never came with instructions on first use. I use mine occasionally it does allow me to make better S&G rub.

I used mine tonight to make Pad Kra Pao using a couple of pork chops from my sister's ranch and holy basil from the garden.

We’ve had the big one from Costco for over a dozen years. It doesn’t get daily use, but I’m definitely glad we have it.
