    Artificial Grass

We had a spot in our backyard that was heavily shaded. We decided to splurge and have artificial turf installed. Best decision I have made in a long time. Absolutely love it!

Very nice! We have thought about doing this in the backyard, as keeping up with the lawn the last few years is getting challenging. But that spot looks wonderful!

Having that shade on it keeps that grass cool I bet! That is one reason we haven’t made the jump - too hot where we are adds more to the temp.

Thanks. I now have another place to sit outside and enjoy the day or evening.

I just got a quote on turf that peeled my eyelids back. I balked. Yours looks so good I'm reconsidering.

The first quote was insane! I got another price and it was just disturbing. We went with disturbing. Not cheap but every now and then you just got do something crazy.

That does look nice! Do yall have St. Augustine grass over there? How close does the artificial grass look to your 'normal' grass?

We do have st Augustine here. To me it looks like a putting green.

jecucolo I was going to say that. It looks like a really pristine golf course!

    Looks nice.
I was seriously considering it, but in St Pete it is regulated and considered non-permeable.
It does allow drainage of course, but apparently not enough to accommodate our heavy thunderstorms. 😕

+1 barelfly - It can get very hot in the sun. Best for shady areas where grass struggles. 👍

The turf is permeable but the base underneath it is not.

    Good choice.
I had it installed at last house and current one already had it.

Very nice. All the greatness of a perfectly manicured lawn with none of the mowing, fertilizing, weeding or watering! Plus, when it is time to rake leaves in the fall you just get out the shop vac..

I tried it once, but the artificial weeds took over very quickly.

Isn't that the stuff they sell at the gas station, artificial weed.

If it were allowed, I've love to have this on the part of my lawn that is between the sidewalk and the street. There are no trees on it and it gets that direct summer Texas sun. No amount of watering seems to help it. Resoded it a few years ago and I'm back to dead spots. Moreover, we get all of that dallisgrass, which is a constant battle. (Those of you in southeast Texas know exactly what I am talking about.)

Bahiagrass. Came up early this year with all the rain in May.

I did turf in the front and back last year. My son and I did all the work, which saved a lot of money, but still very expensive. We love it! Make sure you do the prep! If you have dogs, do not put the landscape fabric down, it will retain smells.

I work my dogs in the back yard and they would just rip the grass to shreds in seconds. Turf always looks good and they haven't managed to do any damage. They make deodorizors if you have pets, but we use Odoban in a garden sprayer every few weeks and that keeps it smelling nice and clean.

We did the front with the remnants from the back after we expanded the driveway. I'd do it again.

Wow! That stuff has come a long way since the Brady Bunch era! Looks very real now...

I have problems growing grass in my backyard due to shade, but also too many dogs (my 1 and my kids 3) crapping and peeing out there to keep astroturf clean...

I prefer the real thing for me and my dogs...but I have installed some pretty nice turf that dogs love. Usually has irrigation to rinse the smells during the no rain season here.

We are about to landscape our yard and will be using dog grass in the back. I went with a darker green, so I hope it will look ok. I like the color of the image above. Looks like real grass.
I probably went with a darker color because I grew up with a dark St. Augustine grass. Anyway, whatever color I chose will look better than the prison yard I have now.

FCDank We are using a grass that is designed for dogs, and the landscape designer likes this brand. I can't remember which one it is. I think there is enough variation in the colors in the grass to make it look pretty good. It will be better than the dirt we have now, no matter what color I chose.

You had me at "landscape designer". Way to go!
The turf will make using the yard, and just looking at it, so much more enjoyable.

                    Thanks.
It was a necessity. He is landscape architect, and drew up a beautiful plan for us. A bonus is that he has a contractor that he works with that is licensed, pulls permits and has a proper contract for work.
