The first one that arrived just did not pump at all, and the replacement they sent ran for 15 minutes before I finally got frustrated and said to hell with it. Anyone else have one who can tell me what I might be doing wrong? I have the oil container lower than the pump as instructed.

I am not sure. My fryer has a drain valve on the bottom so I don't have to worry about pumping it out.
However, I would check to make sure your seals are tight. Put soap on any spot where there might be a gasket to check to see is you are pulling air in anywhere.
Also, check for an airlock and do not start the pump until the intake is in the oil.
You may need to prime the pump before actually getting the pumping going.
For what it is worth. You might wanna just return it and buy one of these. I got this drill pump for syrup season to transfer sap. It works great and it is cheap. I also used it to transfer salmon oil from a 55-gallon drum into smaller containers. Worked like a charm. All you need is a drill. It hooks right into the chalk on the drill like any bit would. They are not available right now in this exact model, but there are plenty of other similar ones on Amazon. These are slick to have around.
My Mom had a small aluminum pot similar to that for bacon grease. (Not that my comment has anything to do with this thread, but the image brought back a memory.)
I had one for sucking oil out of a marine diesel that worked well...But it was over 100.00. For canola oil etc I think a funnel and a very fine sieve work well. I tried a coffee filter but the particles in the oil clogged fast.

No stuff. I think the key is that it must be full submerged to work or else it gets air in the line. There is a bulb on the end that prevents submersion except when the oil is still 4 inches deep.

I think thatās a good idea Dave. Thatās gonna be fine for most uses unless youāre deep frying a turkey or something where lots of oil is required.
