Rotisserie Cook Ideas…What Have You Used It For?

MarkN just posted some great pics of some thick cut pork chops he did on his rotisserie today! His last question was what to do next….. 🧐 I have a rotisserie also for my kettle and find myself thinking the same thing. After a minute of thinking I decided I’m gonna try shish kabobs, using the prongs to hold the veggies and meat. I’ve had a rotisserie attachment before for that, but mine didn’t work very well and I tossed it after 1 use. My SNS rotisserie kit came with the 4 pronged skewers, which should work fine for me.

We all do chickens of course on the rotisserie, and also pork loins occasionally. But after that, I’ve drawn a blank. My question is, besides whole chickens or pork loins, what have you done on your rotisserie that you liked? I think the reason a lot of us who have a rotisserie don’t use them that much, is from lack of ideas to use them for. Your suggestions and pics are welcomed!

First thing that spring to my mind is Al Pastor.

+1 just remember not to use pineapple juice if you marinade the pork overnight. Trust me, it does not work out well!

efincoop is correct, my first attempt at pastor turned to mush.

Boneless leg of lamb, homemade gyro roast, pichana steaks, peppered chicken thighs (bbq pit boys), marinated skirt steal roll. That’s off the top of my head. I’ll think on it more…..
But in general terms, if you can skewer it, spin it.

I have done boneless leg of lamb, whole chickens, small turkey, pork butt, veggies in a basket. I really love the lamb on the roti.

Prime rib roasts. I've done two, they have been excellent.

Bkhuna just don't try Malcom Reed's fireball marinated pineapple recipe whatever you do.

Gotta score it and soak/baste it in brown sugar and fireball though.

          Picana.
          Roast beef and rib roasts.
Whole chickens, game hens, turkey breast or small turkeys.
          Pork loins and Borchetta.

An aftermarket rotisserie basket opens up many possibilities. I found that kebabs on the individual fork tines tend to spin and fall off, while a basket holds all manner of parts and pieces firmly in place.
Brined chicken thighs or legs work great in the basket, and brushing on BBQ sauce when the chicken is nearly done is quick and easy.
Small "new" potatoes, oiled and herbed, as well as pork butt chunks, carnitas, are on my list of things to try with the basket.
I think brats and sausages in the cage could benefit from a low, smokey fire. Let's take advantage of the remaining summer.

Ha! Today I looked in my basement where I have all manner of assorted bbq stuff stashed and I have one of these! Never used of course. 🙄
I will need to remedy that.

I need to look into this too. I've only used the rotisserie for my SnSK once so far.

That's the type of rotisserie baskets that I use. Spraying with Pam before use aids cleanup. After a brief soak, I use a vegetable brush and soapy water for cleaning.
I have a "tumble" basket for the rotisserie as well. In my opinion, that was a waste of money. With it, the food either sticks together into one clump, or is beaten beyond recognition. However, the tumble basket may be useful for polishing stones.
Glad that I was able to help you stimulate the economy.

This idea is exactly why I picked up a basket...

Oddly enough, tri tip. I get the Costco two pack, dry brine, some Big Bad Beef rub, red oak chips, and to to town. once internal hits about 120, I pull it and sear it on all sides. Comes to about 135 after resting. It's tasty, predictable and pretty quick. I've also done ribs (meh) and chicken and Thai game hens. Just picked up a basket to experiment with some other things...

I am gonna have to spin more stuff!

The question is, do I want a "tumble" basket or one like PJ shows above, that clamps down on stuff?

I've also had an eye on one of those rotisserie kabob wheels that will spin like 8 kabobs, but probably will never pull the trigger on that, as if I do kabobs, its usually more than 8 by the time I get the meat and veggies skewered.

Get both. The tumble basket is perfect for chiles and peppers.
