Worst bbq purchase you ever made

What is something you bought in pursuit of our shared addiction that was a complete waste of money or worse. I know those "grill lights" were a super stupid idea.

    Burger press. Various grill lights.

I had a burger press---one of those hinged deals--> real crap. But the cast iron smasher I use for bacon and for smashburgers

That's what I meant. The kind that forms patties. I've had couple and they all sucked.

I used a burger press at my old job (used to own a butcher shop). It rocked!

A rack for hanging chicken legs and wings. Have never used it. A rib rack too. Never used that either. Oh and a rack/holder for veggies on the rotisserie. Another still in the box item.

Yep. One of my kids gave me a chicken leg hanging rack for Father's Day or my birthday. It's still clogging up the shelf I keep BBQ stuff on in the garage, and I've never used it. I prefer to just put them on the grate!

My rib rack gets used often though.

I bought, and used the hangers a few times on my WSM before I finally said this is really a stupid idea. I just just the regular grates, remove the water pan, and get that "unique" taste knowing my stuff will never fall in to the fire. And if my chance it does, well then I have bigger problems to worry about because that means the house is probably falling over the hillside.

Relatively new to the game, so less than adequate charcoal is all....

I need to qualify this after immediately stating it, but....Weber iGrill wireless thermometer. Everything about it is great, except the wireless technology they choose. Bluetooth is just not the appropriate technology for monitoring unless you are line-of-sight and outside.

Slow 'N Sear....worthless. Should have just used the $50 bucks to light my charcoal chimney. Would have got more 'bang for the buck' than the SnS.

      IMHO....

Good that it works for others. Gave my SnS to my brother.

Now the DnG has to rank up there. Used it 3-4 times and now just sits on a shelf for the last 3-4 years.

Steve B Same here, pain in the ass to clean. Used mine twice when I first got it, haven’t touched it in about a year.

Bought a stainless grill, that was stainless everywhere except where it mattered... like the hardware, drip tray and interior chamber... it had pretty LED lights though... lasted 1 year before the screws started rusting, at 3 years the interior rotted out. Lights and ignitor only lasted 1 summer too... that was 1K down the drain.

I did my due diligence with the info I had at the time.. the lid was heavy Good thing is, it led me on my journey to here and my all stainless MAK. Not sure if it's still kicking, but that grill made it's way to a church to bake car parts for charity so there's that too.

Rod thanks to google reverse search, I found it. I think we pain 899 before tax and that was with a rotisserie and a cover. Was actually a pretty good grill while it worked, but all the hardware rusted within the first year, not sure what the point of stainless panels is if you use low grade screws. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Master-Forg...Burner/3511473

If you’d started this thread six months ago I wouldn’t own crappy grill lights that I put on my Christmas list because they have 4.8 stars on Amazon.

Grill grates. Replaced half my grates on the gasser with them and after hating them for a year and cooking primarily on the other half of the grill I didn’t switch, finally took them off and put back the original grates. Thankfully I didn’t opt for a full swap

Jerod Broussard - yup. Felt like they were a lesser substitute for my lodge cast iron griddle which I’ve used on the gasser before.

Joining Amazing Ribs.. I already knew everything possible about BBQ before joining. I ain’t learned doodly squat in the almost 2 years I’ve been here. Only thing I’ve done is spend countless $ on untold worthless crap I didn’t even need. When you already know everything like I do, it was a total waste of $24.

I cooked a turkey on my gas grill rotisserie for Thanksgiving. As I was carving it, I gave my wife a taste. "Spicy!" She said. Huh, all I did was brine it in salt and sugar. Well I took a bite and the heat floored me. I dug the wrapper out of the trash and realized I had bought a Cajun flavored turkey. We couldn't eat it. I gave it to my stepson who said it was the best he'd ever had!

A gas BBQ. I admittedly only gave it four chances but I bought it to grill. I can’t grill with a lid down. It is counterintuitive. I have GrillGrates on my Santa Maria and love them. It just goes to prove one man’s (or woman’s) gold is another’s s$&*%
