What’s Your Favorite AND Least Favorite BBQ/Cooking Accessories?

Lord knows most of us have spent a ton of money on cookers and accessories since joining AR…(and before maybe) I know I have…and I’ve also wasted money on a few things I’ll never use again or turned out to be crap…but, with the wealth of experienced cooks here who will happily give advice and recommendations, most all of my purchases have been money well spent.

So my question to everyone is, besides cookers, what are your most..and least…liked BBQ/Cooking accessories you’ve bought in your lifetime? Something you just can’t live without? Also, what have you bought that you regret? I’ve got a couple.

    1. This electric portable burner. I’ve used it maybe twice, just won’t get hot enough for me to get a good sear or to get oil hot enough to fry in. I switched to a single burner butane model…love it! It gets much hotter.

    2. This accessory I bought for my Weber Rotisserie. Used it one time last year, was a big pain to put the food on the skewers and then onto the rotisserie. It also dropped a couple of skewers off onto the coals during the cook. That was the one and only time I used it. Probably just gonna throw it away.

    3. This one I don’t really regret at all, but I’ve had it a couple of years and have used it maybe 3 times…. My rotisserie for the kettle. I really enjoy the hell out of it when I do use it, but I don’t like cutting up whole chickens when they’re cooked and hot. I’ve done a couple of pork loins on the rotisserie and they came out great, but couldn’t tell much difference than when done on the grate.

HERE’S MY FAVORITES: NO PARTICULAR ORDER

    1. The Vortex - I’d never even heard of a vortex until I joined AR. After reading about everyone sing it’s praises, I thought I’d give it a shot. Soo glad I got one. Use it a lot.

    2. The SnS Insert for the kettle - I never heard of this one either until joining this money pit. Used it again just yesterday. Does a fantastic job turning your kettle into a smoker…Thanks Dave Parrish and Huskee.

    3. My new Wustof knives. Man, what a pleasure it is using those!

    4. Butane countertop portable burner. This is perfect for me to use outside when frying or making blackened ribeyes, searing etc. No more smoke and smells in the house.

    5. Gooseneck portable light for the side shelf of my Kettle. Indispensable for me in the winter. No more holding a flashlight. Thanks to my Secret Santa in 2020, Smoking Steve.

    6. Battery operated salt and pepper grinders. This is probably my most used accessory…almost every day. Love em. No more having to use both hands for fresh ground pepper.

Yea Attjack inspired me to buy this one as well. I don’t use it a lot but have had good success with it. Gets the Troutman seal of approval 👍👌

My favorite by far is the Vortex. Hands down the best way to cook chicken wings or parts on a kettle. Flip it over and it becomes a steak searing machine.

Least favorite are the various add on racks I.E. rib racks, wing racks and the like. A pain to use and they don’t work for s**t.

Second least favorite, and I know this is blasphemy around these parts, is the SnS. I know. WHAT??? It’s not that I think it’s a bad device. But with all the other cookers and accessories I have I just don’t use it. I think I have only used it twice in the two years I have had it.

My least favorite cooking accessory is microwave range hoods not mounted on an exterior wall... the recycle/filter function never works on those things, absolutely pointless.

Other cooking things I dislike... every single as seen on TV POS my wife has bought. The only one we've actually used a few times a year is the Sushi bazooka, that thing works. But all the spiralizers (I do veg prep, so not sure why she keeps buying those things), burger stuffers (again, I hand patty everything, I don't need no stinkin' stuffer thing and she doesn't make burgers), item specific food savers/servers....

One of my favorite things I think, is the deviled egg serving thingamobobber we bought. It has a nice little space underneath for some ice, it's easy to clean, and has a 2nd tray in it for cold cuts or dips or whatever. We only use it maybe 10 times at most a year, but it's a fantastic device. I don't like deviled eggs, and it's still one of my favorite cooking accessories.

My worksharp sharpener has been a life saver as well. I just cannot hold an angle on a stone to save my life. There were knives in the house I wasn't a huge fan of, and using the worksharp I was able to change their cutting angles to something my hands more prefer and keep the knives that were already at Asian angles as sharp as they are meant to be.

The deviled egg thingamobobber... is it by any chance the Pampered Chef Cool & Serve? My wife got one of those and it is great.

Agree 100% about microwave vent a hoods. Worthless, I have one. All it does is suck up the air and blow it back in my kitchen.

My favorites: the sous vide circulator and the vacuum sealer. I don't know how I lived without either.

My least favorite is the rotisserie for my Napoleon. There is nothing wrong with it. I just never use it. It just sits around taking up space on my barbecue shelf.

Me five on the grill grates. The only time I thought they were worthwhile was try to grill on a Traeger or CampChef. I’ve tried them on two gassers now and other than reducing flare ups a bit, have not been impressed. They’re currently in the cabinet under my grill.

I feel the same way about the grill grates. Just not satisfied with using them on the gasser or the kettle. Probably user error...but they just don't work for me...

I don't really have a favourite, but my least favourite are my friends and neighbours who grill once or twice a year standing beside me while I cook something and proceed to tell me what I'm doing wrong. 🤔🥱

Most favorite is the SnS followed by the Fireboard. I'm lazy...

                  Faves:
Fireboard without a doubt number one
Stainless steel sheet pans with racks - I have the fancy Williams Sonoma bbq trays I rarely use now, these pans clean so much easier
GrillBlazer Grill Gun - Just too much fun on the rare occasions I actually use it
Dewalt work light - at least during winter months

                  Least Faves:
                  GrillGrates
Customized Big Joetisserie for WSCG - Works great, but doesn’t seem worth the work over just spatchcocking or splitting a bird.
Weber GBS griddle pan - too small and doesn’t clean easily

hoovarmin The link PJ put is the brand I have, but I have 16x12. I don’t think they offered the little bit bigger ones or I would have bought them. Though I will say the 16x12 fit in the fridge nicely. I do that a lot when dry brining.
