My house is original 1936. One bathroom has a tub with a later shower add-on, the tub is kinda short so i can;t stretch out in it. The rest of the bathroom was remodeled into a really user unfriendly set up so I don't use it much - it is basically my home brew room. I plan to remodel it within a few years though and I will delete the tub. The bathroom I use is a small Hollywood bath that connects the two smaller bedrooms. It has a shower only. Nice 1930s tile work that I plan to keep. I would like to add an extra shower head though.

We have a big jacuzzi tub in our master and I have never used it in the 7ish years we’ve lived in the house and fairly certain neither has my wife. Kids used to use it periodically when they were younger.
Now the shower in our master bath is amazing as the shower head is like a fire hose with the pressure. Super hot water and crazy water pressure is relaxing to me (and apparently my kids too as they prefer that shower to the ones in their bathroom).

We have both a big soaking tub and a shower. I don't mind a nice soak now and then, but I can't remember the last time I did. My wife has low blood pressure and hot tubs, baths, etc just make her feel Iike she's gonna pass out. It's a no-go for her. I think we've used it a half dozen times in 11 yrs, and almost every time was because someone wasn't feeling well.
When we remodel, I'd be happy to take it out and rearrange to large multi-head shower with a frame less door. Because of the layout, I'll probably leave it in. I do think every house needs a tub, especially if you've got Littles. Which we still do...
Having said all that my adult daughter, my two sisters, and my nieces looove baths. So... I'm not sure that helps, but in my experience the ladies prefer to have a tub and the guys don't care. (unless there's sharing involved...
)
Edit : under no circumstances should sharing involve Panhead John.Last edited by Caffeine88; January 25, 2022, 09:36 PM.

There are bath people and there are shower people.Originally posted by Debra View PostAre bubble tubs out and showers in? .
From what we've seen from watching HGTV and browsing Zillow galleries is that while tubs suggest calm and soothing relaxation, it's the shower where all the action is.
Showers large enough for two-three people, multiple shower heads with different intensities, benches/shaving ledges, cubbies for multiple beauty products, built-in speakers, etc....
Tubs can be looked at as giant wastes of water usage vs a shower (the good-sized tubs, that is). The water always gets cold, it's never big enough to fit the arms and legs in at the same time....
Still, Realtors will tell you that it could be harder to sell a home that doesn't have at least one tub in the building. Some builders are putting the only tub in the house in the primary bedroom, and then putting showers in all the other bathrooms (as children get older, they have less and less need for a tub so why bother?)
For bathroom updates, also consider towel warmers and heated floors. Especially the heated floors.

My name is Josh, not Joey (surprise), and I reside in Central Ohio. I have been grilling since I could drive, and smoking for around 15 years. Over the past couple of years I have gotten more into just cooking, and really enjoy sous vide and the flat top. I find myself experimenting with different foods and new ways of cooking as an outlet to work stress. I use every piece of equipment I own regularly, with the exception of the electric smoker. That only gets brought out on occasion to make jerky.
My favorite beverage is bourbon. I typically have at least 8-10 bottles open at any given time. While I have favorites, I enjoy sampling new and different varieties.
Here are a few pics from our 2016 remodel. I would show the pics from the 2018 remodel but they’d be the same, except the new contractor installed the shower pan correctly so water stopped dripping into the kitchen downstairs.
you can see the tub we removed in the mirror in the first pic.

Absolutely gorgeous Joey! Good job…I really like the paint color you chose too. Can you tell me about the accent wall in the last picture, the wall behind your towel rack? Is that a special type of texture…..or wallpaper?Last edited by Panhead John; January 26, 2022, 07:53 AM.

Both, Panhead John. It is textured wallpaper. I can take no credit for any of it, my wife has the vision. And the know how, for that matter. All of the power tools in the garage are hers, not mine.

I think every house needs a tub and a walk-in shower. Ya never know when ya may need a doctor recommended soak and ya know soaking the dear wife puts her in a peaceful frame of mind. I also vote for two out door soakers, one for summer (cool) and one for winter (hot). Nothin like looking up at stars while being immersed in water vodka and tonic helps too…….

WillTravelForFood Well yes, two out door smokers pair well with two outdoor soakers! And, nothin like being immersed in smoke while looking up at the stars!Last edited by smokenoob; January 26, 2022, 08:17 AM.

Bubble tub, bubble tub, bubble tub! What in Sam Hill is A bubble tub? What kind of bubbles rrr we talkin about? And, is there some kinda design ta hold the bubbles from escaping? What I kin gather here is, Ol’ Debra ain’t talkin bout no average & ordinary tub.

FireMan we ordered from this company.
I chose to outfit the tub to the max.
I ordered everything in all the sections except the micro bubble option because it is only sold in a micro bubble tub and can't be included in any other package.
All MTI soaking tubs are ergonomically designed for your maximum comfort and longer baths at home. Enjoy warm baths that induce sound sleep and relaxation.
I believe the name of the company kind of says it all.
MTI--Mr. Tub Incorporated.
Best of all it is made in the USA.

Regular tubs are just to small and the water gets cold. Had a jacuzzi tub at our old place. Only one who used it was my daughter because it made every bath a bubble bath.
I love a walk in shower with plenty of space. Our new house has an awesome shower in the master bath no tub. The central bath does have a tub and was great for our son as a baby because he need the tub not a shower. I do think a house need at least one tub.
My Dad had a shower that was also a steam room. Now that's living!

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
Our house was built around 1969 to 1970, and has the typically tiny master bath of that era, at least for this part of the country, and only has a built in walk-in shower (tiled), and a vanity barely big enough to shave at. The shower is probably 3 x 4 inside, not too confining. And I get to scrub the grout when it needs it!
. The builder compensated by putting a dressing area with a vanity or makeup area outside the bathroom, in a hall of sorts that is part of the master bedroom.
The "guest" bath on the other hand is huge - literally 20 something feet long, with a porcelain tub with a shower head and tile enclosure, 8 foot long vanity, and a "throne" that is literally in its own little 6 x 8 area. Huge waste of space really, and since it backs up to the insufficient master bath and bedroom located built in dressing table, there's many times I've thought of gutting the entire area and remodeling it into two reasonable sized bathrooms. You could probably fit two 10x10 foot bathrooms into the area taken by the huge hall bath and tiny master bath.
Anyway, back on point - at the time we bought the house, they called it a 3/4 bath if it only had a shower and no tub, and it was considered a negative to NOT have a tub in a bathroom. However, I sure watch a lot of HGTV type shows that SWMBO puts on that show remodels with just a huge fancy dancy shower.
I have to agree with others that there ought to be at least one tub in the house - where else you gonna wash the dogs or little kids - but not every bathroom has to have one.Last edited by jfmorris; January 26, 2022, 04:27 PM.
