Time for a Poll on remodeling

I find it interesting that comments on bath remodels seem to indicate tubs are out and showers are in.
It seems showers are definitely surpassing tubs when remodels are taking place. BUT it seems only men are commenting.
I personally use the whirlpool tub every night, and love laying back in an extra hot tub to soak while being blasted on by the bubbles. That is why I chose to install a new bubble tub as my Husband calls it.
S O on the other hand seems to shower nightly and I've only seen him use the bubble tub when he is not feeling well.
Are bubble tubs out and showers in? It would be interesting to hear from the female side vs male side of the room.

I enjoy sitting in an outdoor jacuzzi/whirlpool on occasion, but only if it is outside and it is the winter. Haven't been in an indoor bathtub in at least 20 years. I can safely speak for my wife since we have remodeled two master bathrooms in our marriage, and in both cases removed the soaking tub to put in a big, multi-head shower. And she has been in maybe two hot tubs since we have been married and complained about both times. Personal preference, I guess, but at least in my house the man and woman agree on no bathtub in the master bedroom. I think most houses should have one in the guest bathroom for resale value (since kids need them for at least a little while).

I have a step up walk in tub. I use it at least every other night. Eases muscles. I would like to upgrade to a Kohler walk in tub because my low budget Wayfair one isn't all that easy to get up and in. Before I did that, I'd have to replace the fiberglass shower. It looks just like the one posted by Steve B but older with a sliding glass shower door. I want both!

My old door was a slider. Hated it.

I hate the step up and into the shower. Plus old fiberglass just doesn't ever look clean.

Our fiberglass enclosure is 16 years old and still looks almost new. Maybe we got lucky with this one or is it possible that Home Depot had a good quality brand at the time. 🤷🏼

Years ago I put a big deep tub in our master bathroom. The only problem was that our hot water heater would generally run out of enough hot water to cover my big fat body so it rarely got used. We recently installed a tankless water heater and it’s a life changing event. We never run out of hot water now. It’s amazing to come home after getting my ass handed to me by men 20 years my junior on the Jiu Jitsu mats - tired, drench in sweat, every muscle aching - and just sit in a tub of hot water up to my chin for 20 mins or so. VERY therapeutic. I’ve recently started stealing my teen daughter’s TikTok light machine and I feel like I’m floating in outer space.

ID:	1165231 We do also have a shower. I wouldn’t want to do without that. That’s essential, the tub is a luxury…for me.

As I recall, when we built this house in 2018, the developer didn't even offer a tub as an option in the master bath.

I have always been a fan of soaking in the tub.
IF it ever finds its way home mine is equipped with light therapy, bubble therapy, jet therapy, gong therapy, aromatherapy, and capable of playing music.
I am getting older, and need the therapies.
My Husband just can't get over gong therapy. I figured why not go for it.

If you have the space and budget, both. Might want to tag some of the other women here to get the female perspective too.

rickgregory the space is definitely a problem in our home which was built in the '70's.
If things go as planned we will definitely be looking at a nice shower area downstairs when we remodel it in the Fall.

When we remodeled the master bath we had a large walk-in shower built, 6 ft X 6 ft. We couldn’t agree where to put a seat so we had a teak wood one built that can be moved to where ever you want it or moved out of the way. Next year we are going to have one of the old people friendly step in tub, shower combos put in the guest bathroom. It’s a shame, I have my grandmothers beautiful old lions foot tub. It’s huge. I’m 6 ft 3 in and I can stretch out, lay with my back on the upward slope, there will be water to my chin. There’s no way I’d be able to step over the side in a few years. Maybe one of the kids will want it. What’s gong therapy?

We re-did our bath last year. This is on an 150 year old house and the last time the bath had been redone was 1941 based on the newspapers stuffed in the wall as insulation. We kept the bathtub and I tiled in a shower surround. Couple of reasons for that:

A: the better half enjoys a soaking bath after the gym
B: easier to trap the dogs for the dreaded bath
C: keeping the tub a lot easier than risking messing up a shower pan and causing a leak
D: I had no interest in trying to move a 5 ft cast iron tub downstairs.
E: I also had no interest in uncovering whatever issues lie underneath. I redid the plumbing and drain, that’s enough for me.

If we were to move, we’d probably try and find a home with a master bath that had separate tub and showers.

We have a big 2 person garden tub and a small walk in shower with door in master, a regular tub shower combo in the girls bathroom, and a larger open shower in the boys bathroom. Garden tub gets used primarily by Mrs. Calhoun.

While it seems that a lot of women like taking bubble baths, the same holds true for some men as well. I was actually at RonB ‘s house last weekend for a cookout and accidentally walked in on him in the tub.

We currently have no tubs in the house. We do have a hot tub, though, and it is on the back porch just outside the French doors from the master bedroom. We use it fairly regularly. My wife has mentioned a time or two it might be nice to have a tub in the house, but the only tub came out about ten years ago when we redid our daughters' bathroom (now the bathroom for the guest room). There is another bathroom out in the main part of the house, and I think we may want to put a tub in there some day when we redo it (it still has original 1987 tile, but thank goodness it's plain white tile).

We're only about two weeks away from completing our massive master bathroom renovation. I've been waiting to start a post on it until things are complete. We've also ripped out the carpet in the master bedroom and laminate flooring goes in tomorrow and Thursday. I've also finished the job of refinishing the bed, nightstands and dresser. Pics of them will go in the big reveal post.

It is beginning to loo like laminates are flooring of choice?

Debra We are putting in the same flooring that went in our family room and dining areas when we renovated there six years ago. Remarkably, Home Depot still sells the same stuff (Pergo XP Haley Oak). We even were able to pull up the transition piece from the family room to bedroom door and removed the cut pieces of flooring so we can weave in the new stuff seamlessly under the door. Fortunately, this design has many different shades of oak mixed, so slight dye lot differences won't matter.

@Jim White If I remember right Pergo began the laminate/floating floor craze here in the US.
