Dang it in years past That little 375 mile drive (5.5 hours) from Lubbock to Austin would have been a no brainier. Be cool to spend some time with like minded (culinarily speaking) folks! But not this year Enjoy I so want to do that some day.

Lucky guy.. Sounds like a lot of fun. I'd go down there , unfortunately that's my 1st comp in pueblo. Best wishes creating as many good times as possible.
Off the BBQ topic but after three days of eating nothing but BBQ the meat sweats may be heavy. I highly recommend filling in some gaps w tacos - the tacos down there are fantastic. Check out taco deli and get the doña salsa. It's amazing.
If you have a fridge where you staying at you can also get a bunch of the Texas style hot links from blacks or kreuz's - keep em in the fridge. Stop by the grocery store on the way to the airport and by some frozen peas to keep em cool on the way home. Pop em in the freezer as soon as you hit home and you'll have Texas hot links to cook at home! (Make sure you do laundry if you're packing clothes in the same bag)

If you have time, Louis Mueller's(pronounced Miller's) in Taylor is definitely a "don't miss". It's about a 45-minute drive from the airport.
And if you want to get a steak, Perry's Steakhouse downtown is THE place. Make a reservation. If you don't feel like a steak, their house specialty is a 3-bone chop, which is exactly what it says, a loin chop that's 3 bones thick and to die for. The nice thing about it is that leftovers are guaranteed.
I so want to make another trip to Austin! Have fun!
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

Hmm, learn something new everyday, despite my best efforts to the contrary Now I don't have to sound like a tourist if I ever go there. On a side note I've also heard Missouri is pronounced Missour-uh by its residents.

Well.....I had an incredible trip to Austin Texas! I met a lot of great people and ate so much BBQ, I don't know if it's possible to eat any more. While I had planned on visiting 7- 8 places on last Friday, we only made it to three spots. We just could not eat any more!
The first stop we made was at La Barbecue. And it was amazing!!!
The food was amazing and the staff was even better. My brother and I stopped by on the way to our rental house from the Airport. It was late (4:30 PM) so they were sold out of everything, except for sausage and some chopped beef, which we bought and loved! The fact that they were all sold out wasn't that bad, because it gave us the opportunity to meet both head Pitmasters Eli and Brandon, and the owners, Leean and Ali, who were planning for tomorrows cooks. They were great people. Eli and Brandon showed us around the Pits and they were able to show us some beef ribs we that were cooking for tomorrow. Chopped Beef and Sausage
Since they were sold out, they told us to come back tomorrow and they will "take care of us". So.....we showed up the next day at 11 AM. Eli took us in the back and served us the first plate of the day!! We got brisket and one monster beef rib. The Beef rib was amazing. Incredible smoke flavor, classic Texas rub with salt and pepper. We also got about a pound of brisket. This brisket was some of the best I have ever had in my entire life. Perfect amount of clean smoke and bark. The seasoning was ever present but the smoked beef flavor was the real star. La Barbecue was a wonderful experience, and the staff made it even better. DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE IF YOUR IN AUSTIN! GREAT FOOD AND EVEN BETTER PEOPLE!!
Hahahaha, My brother said I had to add this picture to the writeup. Not the most flattering photo of me........but that beef rib was unreal!

The second stop we made was to Black's BBQ in Lockhart. This place was also incredible.
We ordered Brisket Point and Pork Ribs. I really liked Black's. The building was old and smelled exactly like you'd expect. It was as if the smell of BBQ was coming from the walls of the building itself! There was a short line so we got lucky. We went with Brisket point, pork ribs and some slaw. We ordered at the counter and the Pitmaster was there slicing and chopping every order as you told him. Really a cool experience. I was in LOVE with this place.
The point was incredible. A little less fatty, but in a good way, it was unbelievably tender and the bark on that point was total perfection. The point pretty much melted in your mouth once you bit through the bark. The pork ribs were also amazing. Heavy smoke and very little seasoning, which was great. The meat and the smoke were doing all of the talking here. Black's has been at this location since the 1930's and I can see why. The food was incredible and the atmosphere was classic Texas BBQ. It is a bit of a drive, but it was well worth the trip down to Lockhart.
