After the last Lafyette Meat-up, my brother and I were at the Lafyette airport, going back to Los Angeles. At the airport waiting for our flight, a couple across from us on their way to Europe (Debbie and Paul Choate) overheard our conversation about BBQ and started up a conversation with us. Long story short, we have stayed in communication ever since. Even exchanged Christmas presents last year. Debbie and I had a great conversation about Gumbo.

Debbie and Paul grew up in the Acadiana area and have lived in Lafyette for the last 20 years. They are both of Cajun descent. They stressed that Lafyette area is known for the best Cajun food: crawfish, gumbo, oysters, shrimp, crabs, frog legs and a variety of fish. And they wanted to make it clear that New Orleans does not have Cajun food. They have Creole food.
I told them that there is another group heading down to Lafyette later this month and if they had any restaurant recommendations. And they do!!!
      1. Dupuys Seafood and Steak. Famous for oysters on the ½ shell – Abbeville, LA
      2. Old Tyme Grocery. Po boys, Lagniappe – Lafyette, LA
      3. Rachael’s Café. Though I think this is where you buy it and take it home to heat. – Lafyette, LA
      4. Don’s Seafood. Lafyette, LA
      5. Fezzo’s Seafood, Steakhouse and Oyster bar. Broussard or Crowly, LA
      6. The Chimes. Lafyette, LA
      7. Johnson’s Boucaniere. Hot sausage, po boys. Lafyette, LA
      8. Judice Inn. Hamburgers. Opened in 1947. Lafyette, LA
Enjoy the trip. I wish I was going so that I could stop by and say hello to Debbie and Paul and try out a few of these restaurants.

I can’t believe that you and the other Californians won’t just pack up and fly halfway across the country every time we do this! 😂😜 Actually 58limited and I did eat at Old Tyme Grocery and had a few of their po-boys…..👍👍 Also on the last visit a few of our group ate at Johnson’s Boucaniere. I'll leave the first floor to the mobility impaired or lazy.

        A CAT 3 Hurricane wouldn’t stop me from eating at Laura’s 2.

This would be a good video for Panhead John 's post about visitors discovering and loving the U.S. but I thought it was a good post for the Mini Meat - Up thread. I've been watching this British couple as they traveled across Texas and now they are in Louisiana. They specifically go to small out of the way towns and avoid the tourist areas. They stopped at this little dive in Delcambre and the locals are hilarious, and typical, of the Cajuns found in this entire region of Acadiana. Don't let the video thumbnail fool you, its a bit click baity.

I think I’ll pass on the Coonass initiation. 😂 I’m only 7 minutes in but it’s good so far!

Same couple in Scott, La and Lafayette. Don’t miss the last segment of them eating crawfish in Lafayette. Good stuff!
