IMPORTANT NOTICE: Hey folks, I spoke to Laurie yesterday about the availability of ground floor rooms and she does have some available for our weekend. If anyone attending has mobility issues or could benefit from not having to deal with elevator waits, please PM me and I will take care of it for you….don’t be shy! Having a ground floor room usually means less walking distance, so…… Anyway, I would like to save a few ground floor rooms for anyone who could benefit, I know we have a few folks who might appreciate it. Alas, this is not in the cards for me.

I was so holding out, but them dern verments got me!

This is not a Texas expression. I am literally dealing with "them dern verments." (Okay, maybe it is a Texas expression.)

The last week of August, my downstairs AC blower motor went out. Gave me 22 years. After replacing it, my AC guy calls me up to the attic, "You have a nest up here."

A nest? In my attic..... "Of birds?" I quizzically asked. "No," he laughed. "Of rodents!"

URK. I had a collection of squirrels and rats in my attic. (For those unsure, this is very much not cool.) I contracted with a reputable guy who does wildlife eradication (making them move, not killing them....the last thing I need is dead rat in my walls!). He's been over twice a week all this time.

The squirrels are gone. The rats.....are persistent. All entry and exit points have been identified and sealed off. We are leaving one exit point (the garage door open 2" at night). The deterrent spray does work, but WOW....does it leave your house smelling MINTY FRESH.

I am very lucky. If that blower motor hadn't gone out, I might have had major duct work issues. As it is right now, only two ducts are damaged (inner lining) that they need to be replaced. The rest, only the outer part has been compromised and I can patch that. No sense in doing it while they are still up there.

This has been expensive.....so I can't join yall.

Someone (most of you?) please eat a ridiculous amount of shrimp for me.

Dude…. I feel ya! We dealt with this about 6+ months ago. If you want a gory story, I will share privately. Anyhoo….. you will be missed. And I got yer back on shrimps.

I can empathize with you. We just had to deal with the rat thing and after we bought the current house and were preparing to move in a raccoon beat us to it and moved into the attic. This stuff is expensive.

I had this same problem last year and it happened suddenly: there were no rats then within a month there were a lot of rats. The rats were in the attic but came down to the kitchen pantry at night. I could hear them scurrying around in the attic so I put one of my security cameras up there and saw them. Apparently they came down the wall where the A/C return was.

My solution? I bought a battery powered Rat Zapper: https://www.amazon.com/Victor-RZC001...002665ZTC?th=1

It worked, I set it in the pantry then moved it to the hall near the A/C return. I probably killed 10 rats, no more rats in the attic, no poisons that would allow them to die in the walls or attic were used. There has been no evidence that they have been in the pantry since and I don't hear or see anything in the attic anymore. I had to throw away a lot of food (pasta, cereals, flours, etc) that they damaged or peed on.
