HI, I will be in Texas mid July 2025. I am interested to know about any Meatups, courses or BBQ events and any recommendations on some good bbq restaurants to visit.
Also there's a young lady originally from Australia who is well known in the BBQ community/business. Her operation is Hardcore Carnivore: HARDCORE CARNIVORE Might be worth an attempt to contact her as well.
Texas in mid-July? Perfect weather here about that time! 😂 There’s several of us here who can help you out with suggestions. It would help us out with recommendations though if you can tell us where in Texas you’ll be and for how long. As mentioned, Texas is pretty damn big.
I nearly got the full Texas summer experience last year. We drove home about two days before Beryl rolled in. That bastard followed us and took literally the same route all the way to Kentucky. 😂
Thanks for all of the responses.
Hehe, I should have been more specific. Details are being finalised, but I should be in Dallas around 14/7 and leave on 22/7. I will have a car as well, so can get around to places pretty easily.
I have met Jess Pryles at one of the competition events in Melbourne.
Ok, here in Dallas some personal favorites. It will be hot and a bit of a wait for most of these at lunch, so get there at 11 when they open. Not sure about dinner.
*Hutchins in McKinney and Frisco. Get a Texas Twinkie.
*Hurtado’s in Arlington and Dallas
*Slow Bone and Pecan Lodge if you’re going to be downtown. Both are current or former top 10 joints.
*Heim on Mockingbird. Started in Ft Worth, have several locations now. Also former Top 10 joint.
It would be a great choice, but expect to arrive early and wait till they open if you want the best BBQ options. Panther City and Cattlack would be good choices with shorter lines.

I’m headed to Texas back to back weeks soon…..I wonder if I can swing some good spots! Dallas and then Austin….maybe I can talk my coworker into sitting outside of Franklins for 4-5 hours for our business review
When I was last there in September on a Friday, the earliest in our group got us a spot at 11:15am and Ib think we were eating by 12:30ish. Not sure if that’s gotten longer since they got their Michelin star.
58limited - I remember the right up about that spot! I’ll definitely remember these spots! Just checked on KG - they are only open Thurs-Sun - I’ll have to remember that for next trip. I need to find a Mon-Tuesday night spot!
Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
ABSOLUTELY Interstellar. They are Michelin star, and they also have the “BBQ tourism host” down pat. When I was there in October, the owner was chatting with folks from Europe and South America, along with those of us from various parts of the USA.
La Barbecue, Terry Blacks [not to be confused with Black’s BBQ] and KG BBQ are also worthy spots! Just a tip here, make sure you check online for their hours of operation ahead of time. Most of the top spots close in the early afternoon or when sold out. Also, a lot of them close on Monday and or Tuesday. Although Franklin’s is very worthy also and is the most famous BBQ joint, the wait times in line are usually very very long! I’m talking 3-4 hours probably.
I can’t see waiting 3-4 hours for bbq (that might be) incrementally better than other bbq with less of a wait. PJ, I know we agree, and you have less patience than I do! FRANKLIN’s is a destination; if that’s important to you do it. (It means nothing to me.)
KG is a food truck among a bunch of businesses; try to get there before 11AM or after 2PM, they do a strong lunch business with office workers and salespeople.
