Well, it went like this. Me and Captain Mike were both drunk, arguing about where to stay. As I was maneuvering my walker to rush towards him, I slipped and fell into him, knocking him over. We both decided to embellish the actual events a little and call it a brawl.

For anyone attending the MeatUp, or thinking about it, here’s a link for fun things to do in Wimberly, very close to where we’re staying. Some of the scenery is amazing.

Well, I went and did it.
I made a reservation, and then asked SWMBO if I could go. And she said YES! She also said I should stay at least a week - two would be even better.
Actually, our Son lives in Austin, so we will spend a few days with him and I will drive to Blanco Friday if I can borrow my Son's truck. I may need a ride though...

Don’t do it RonB ! Troutman don’t really smell that good. Plus, he’s been known to cut farts in the car and lock the windows!Last edited by Panhead John; May 11, 2022, 07:28 PM.

I looked into booking, was gonna be $500 for a 2BR room (with The Dog), 100% billed up front, cancellation policy says if cancelling in less than 30 days, it's a 50% penalty, in less than 14 days 100% penalty.
Then The Wife reminded me that we're going to have another teenager starting in August - niece is moving in with us to go to college. So that means 2 rooms, not one.
I think I'm out. I need to start looking for a 3rd job to keep my wife from going back to work. <sigh>Last edited by realdocBBQ; May 12, 2022, 09:37 AM.

I’ll have to check with the minister of finance.
FYI for those flying in, that’s the 2nd weekend of the Austin City Limits Music Fest, it might be easier to fly to San Antonio, and it’s much closer than the Austin Airport.
Burnt Bean, Pinkerton’s, Valentina’s, and Leroy & Lewis are all on the Texas Monthly list and out of the traffic nightmare that will be going on in central Austin. I’m going to guess the line @ Franklin’s will require the same sort of effort that is needed in the line at Snow’s.
The Salt Lick is a cool experience because it’s BYOB which makes the wait fun, the BBQ is nothing special compared to the places we have been to at past events.

I personally stopped by Valentina's and Leroy & Lewis when going home from the Spring Meat-up, both totally awesome. Both are trailer operations so seating can be a challenge but I agree, top notch and world class bbq.
Pinkerton's in Houston is a ++ operation. Grant learned from Franklin so you know what his 'cue is like. I've never been to Burnt Bean in Sequin but would go in a heartbeat, its on my short list. That one will require a bit of a drive.
Bottom line, no shortage of places to go.

Hey guys, TxF had a great idea. I have a suggestion, why don’t we include a visit to this new HEB in New Braunfels? They’ve got a True Texas BBQ restaurant inside, it’s a huge 2 story restaurant inside the 122,000 sq. foot store. Their True Texas BBQ was recently voted the best chain BBQ in Texas by Texas Monthly. It was also voted a top national chain BBQ Restaurant. This would give our out of state friends a chance to see what all our bragging on HEB is about, as well as eat some damn good Q….This one just opened last month.

There’s a very scenic 20 minute drive along the Blanco River to Pedernales Cellars winery near Stonewall. Many others nearby. As a bonus there’s an excellent Venezuelan (yes, Chocolates El Rey) chocolate shop nearby as well. That’s worth the trip by itself. One of our favorite hill country drives.Last edited by Texas Larry; May 13, 2022, 05:33 PM.

We will be there Friday morning, it’s only about an hour drive, and staying Friday and Saturday night.
I figure a trip through San Marcos to Seguin to the Burnt Bean would be good, can come back on 46 through New Brunfels for Bucee’s and the H‑E‑B.
I believe I can still remember how to get to Wimberly then go by the Salt Lick and end up at Valentina’s. Don’t have a different way back to Blanco, but the Devils Backbone is a better drive going west in my opinion (which is correct). Pinhead J will have his GPS available for those who would rather take a less scenic route.
Lockhart isn’t out of the way if your driving to I35, I’ve never had any thing there that was outstanding, but I’m not sure I’ve tried every place.

I wanted to post this link to a great article I found called "The 25 Best Places To Visit In The Hill Country". I’ve been to some of the places on this list, and can confirm they’re as beautiful as the pictures in the article. For any of our out of state friends who have the time, any of these spots would be a definite worthwhile side trip.
https://www.boundlessroads.com/best-...-hill-country/
On the BBQ home front, there’s a place called "Old 300 BBQ" in Blanco where we’ll be staying. It’s supposedly very good and has gotten some great reviews. Also in Wimberly, not far away, there’s a place which recently got the Number One spot from a website called "Texas Barbecue." The article was called "The Texas Barbecue Top 25 2022" That place is called Kelly’s Hill Country BBQ. So, anyone attending the Fall MeatUp is gonna be surrounded by beautiful scenery and loads of top notch BBQ joints. Anyway, if you’re interested in attending the Fall MeatUp, don’t dawdle, as there’s only 3 rooms left.
