    Yoder Kingman

Good afternoon everyone! I am considering getting a new smoker, and have it narrowed down to the Kingman or the LSG Texas Edition 48”. They both seem to be great quality and close to the same price. Would anyone that has the Kingman have any pros and cons they can offer?

I cannot offer pros and cons as you ask, since I don't have either, but I do have the Yoder Wichita, then next size down from the Kingman. What I can say is that I wish I'd gotten the Kingman for those times when I'd like more capacity. I don't think you can go wrong. Personally I love having the flip-top firebox of the Yoder, it allows you easier access to loading and fire starting plus it allows you to use the firebox as a smaller wood (or charcoal) grill.

While I can't speak personally to the Kingman, I do have experience with the Texas Edition. One feature I find most folks aren't aware of in the TE is how the baffle that directs the heat/smoke from the firebox to the cook chamber allows use of more of the cooking grate. Most offsets direct heat straight through to the cook chamber, with perhaps a smallish deflector plate so the first foot or so of cooking grate is much hotter than the rest of the chamber. Some deal with that by locating a water pan, or a whole split as an air dam, in that hot zone. That's a reasonable solution though you effectively end up with a 36" cooking surface in your example. The TE gets some radiant heat at that end, off the baffle surface, but it only impacts the first 4" or so. If the space loss doesn't impact the type of cooking you plan then it's not that much of an issue.
