Greasy Yoder Wichita grates after smoking.

How do others clean up your Yoder Wichita cooking chamber grates after smoking?
The grates get very messy, greasy many times filled with fat and meat goobers. How are you cleaning your messy grates. I had been burning off my grates using my weed burner but that is risky, could burn a hole in the grate or seriously warping the grate. I have stopped using the weed burner and building a large fire in the firebox and bringing the cooking chamber up to 350 degrees. After cooling down removing grates and brushing off the goobers leaving all the grease still on the grates.

Exactly what you described in the second method - get it hot, scrub it with wadded up aluminum foil. Takes care of anything on the surface and a good ways below the surface. Anything below that isn't going to be in contact with your meat.

Or pull 'em out and powerwash 'em.

I too am interested in this. I thought of the day after a cook, remove grates and baffle, and wet everything down with a hose and wait a bit for the debris to soften. Then power wash to remove debris. Then reassemble and build a fire in the firebox to dry things out.

My final cleaning method was build a HOT SCREAMING 350 degree fire and
let it totally cool down with all covers closed and all vents 100% open. The next morning used my LARGE weed burner and got the remaining greasy spots smoking (grates only) and sprayed my grates with a coating of vegetable oil and closed all doors and vents. I am all ready for another cook.
P.S. before the grate cleaning clean out cook chamber 2-1/2” steel putty knife and sprayed down with a citrus cleaner rinse hot water.

Buy some Heavy-Duty Oven cleaner. (make sure it has caustic soda) then spray it down, let it soak and break down. Then you can basically hose it down. Most of the proteins and fat will be broken down.

Hand held steam cleaner and the green heavy duty scotch Brite scouring pads. I have the grilltastic steam cleaner, I'm not sure they make it anymore, but it's just a steam cleaner with a grill brush attached - the corners of the grate ripped all the bristles out in after two times anyway, so now I just use the remaining brush to push around a scotch Brite pad and the wipe down whatever the pad doesn't pick up with heavy duty paper towels
