Smoker Trailer With Main Chamber Door Opening On Left Side Or Right Side: Need Advice

    Greetings all.

I hope everyone is healthy and safe.

I need to borrow from the collective's wisdom. In a few months, I will be having a smoker trailer built for me. It will have both a reverse flow smoker as well as a charcoal grill at the front. But I have an interesting decision to make.

Most smoker trailers I have seen (live and online) are built with the smoker's main chamber door opening on the left. While that may be fine for most, I was thinking that such an arrangement could be inconvenient, especially if you're parking the trailer curbside in front of someone's home. I would think it would be better to have the doors open on the right so that I can cook from the sidewalk versus having to stand in the street and potentially get hit by a car whose driver is not paying attention.

Is there an advantage to having the smoker's main chamber doors open on the left versus the right? Especially those who have a smoker trailer or have experience working with one, please tell me what door arrangement you chose and why.

I appreciate your time and feedback.

    Take care.

I build all my trailers with doors opening on the left side for that very reason. Unless you are in a right hand drive country I would suggest doing the same.

I’m with Ahumadora here. There’s a good reason to stick with the standard. Unless you live in the UK or other countries where they drive on the ‘wrong side’ of the street

Besides the smoke flows better left to right

Ha ha ha! And the left brisket is better than the right from a cow. Universal truths
