    Tricks for cleaning stacks/

Wondering if anybody has a good tool or trick to recommend for cleaning the inside of the smoke stack on an offset. All the other maintenance stuff has been pretty simple, but the soot/carbon is starting to build inside the stack and I'd like to get it cleaned out. Thanks.

I don't have a stick burner, but a chimney brush comes to mind:

My younger son once went Trick or Treating as a chimney sweep. Your chimney brush comment triggered that memory.

Burn it out by starting a small fire beneath it.

A stack sized ball of aluminum foil pushed through several times with the handle of a softball bat. After bend grab with pliers and pull out.

I couldn't find any of the right sized chimney brushes for mine, or they had weak looking plastic bristles meant for dry vents, so similar to DonW, I made a big wad of aluminum foil and stuck it tightly to the end of a good sized stick. It worked pretty well for several up & down scrubs. I tightened it on again and went for more once it loosened. It did the job on the dirt cheap.

Use a compass to draw a circle just a hair smaller than the stack diameter on some 1/2 inch plywood. Cut the circle out. Glue and screw it to a wood handle.

Thanks everybody. I had the same issue as others in terms of not being able to find a combo of stiff bristles and a size that fit. The foil ball trick worked well though. Made a few passes down the stack and it definitely scraped off a good bit of crud. I did burn a tumbleweed inside the base of the stack first to loosen it up too. That will be my annual technique now. Thanks again!
