It looks priced a little high when compared to other custom pit makers, but the firebox is insulated and there is a baffle for the water pan that looks extra heavy duty. Not a bad value. You are probably paying a little for the Franklin name.

Beefchop - I will leave it with, ‘You get what you pay for’.
I got mine with powder coat, and with the introductory price, my total cost was about $1k less than today’s price. They no longer offer powder coat options. So this is now a rare smoker as well. 🍻Last edited by Johnny Booth; March 11, 2024, 07:30 AM.

Johnny Booth Since you own one, you would know better than I if you do get what you pay for! I'm a Gator Pit owner and they are often accused of being 'overpriced' so that's my point of reference. You can a pretty tricked out 20x40 Party Gator for $4,200. But, it doesn't come with free shipping.

For me shipping would add over $700.00. That gets mighty close to the full price of the Franklin @ $5150. 🤔

I agree. I started my hobby with his books and style of cooking. I was a fan, and had my eye on this smoker the day it was announced. I suspected these would be serial numbered, so I jumped into line and then responded immediately when they emailed me. I got to pick my serial number and chose the next round number. 50

Final update. Just heard back from Eileen at Franklin Pits. They are very responsive.
This is one of about 100 ‘Franklin Coal’ pits that were sold before powder coat was discontinued.
The serial numbers are in the thousands today.
Lynn Dollar - if you can post some recent pics of yours? I would love to see how nice they patina over time.

Same here Lynn, she’s a beauty! Just curious, is that a storm shelter in the last pic?

Yes, that's my fraidy hole, as my grandmother called them
Lived here 60 years without one. My plan was to drive to a local shopping mall if weather got bad. Until TV weather guy told everyone to drive out of path of storm and I got caught in a tremendous traffic jam. Storm never made it.
But that's when I bought that shelter and I've not needed it since.

I like that look. Ready for action, nothing to chip, blister, or peel.
Looks like a comfy area to hang around in, with all the right toys.
I’m sure that brisket will be excellent.😋
