    Linseed Oil or Hot Paint??

I am strongly considering buying a smoker from Rocket Grills

The option is linseed oil finish or paint. I believe Work Horse Pitts also uses linseed oil.

Any thoughts or comments on the subject are appreciated....Thanx

What in blazes does a linseed oil finish look like? Sound like it could be cool.

Given the choice I’d go with the oil.
Sure you have to keep it oiled but More maintainable in the long run.

Nice question, so I googled it. It is posts like this that help expand knowledge.
Preserve and protect your offset smoker or grill from rust and corrosion (greenhornbbqbeer.com)

As I understand linseed oil and flaxseed oil come from the same plant seeds. Linseed oil has some dryers and other additives that make great as a protective finish for wood and metal alike. Those same additives make it unsuitable for use on food service surfaces. I use it as the finish on the gun stocks I carve, it’s incredible. I think it would be great as a protective coat on a smoker. I use flaxseed oil, the food safe version, as the last layer of seasoning on my cast iron cook ware, it makes a beautiful and durable finish. If it gets as dark on the smoker as it does on the cook ware it would look sharp.
