Sorry in advance if this has been asked, I'm sure it has but I wasn't able to find a thread. I recently purchased an OK Joe's Highland smoker and am looking at doing some mods. Primarily looking at building a charcoal/wood basket and if needed a grate for the firebox (I'm new to using a smoker so don't really know if I need both or not...) If you've built one and have the dimensions that would help out a lot. I've read/seen some using RTV or a gasket to seal the lids and some of the joints to keep the smoke in. What's the best to use? one or the other or both? I'm already using a digital Maverick ET 733 which shows my bi-metal is about 50 degrees off. No wonder my first shot at ribs didn't come out all that great.
Thanks for reading and giving a new guy some suggestions.
If ya' can make yer own, there are th' dimensions...
If ya' wanna buy either, these are made Hell fer Stout!!!
I bought th' basket first, didn't find it terribly suited to what I was doin'... makes a helluva a sear box, though!!!
Th' grate is jus' GREAT!!! Much better fire control, with th' sticks...
Hope this helps, feel free to ask any more, as needed.
Btw: RTV fer seams, gaskets fer doors...
Let's get y'all up, an' smokin'!!!
