BBQ became a serious hobby for me 3 years ago when I bought a Weber Smokey Mountain for Father's Day & joined Amazing Ribs. The WSM taught me about about fire management & temperature control and reading about all of the great food possibilities & the technology that was available to assist in cooking had me hooked.
Since then I sold my WSM and a Traeger Jr. and added a Weber Master Touch, Weber Genesis, MAK 1 Star, Pit Barrel Cooker & a Kamado Joe Classic to my collection. I use them for different things & I know that the food is good because my wife has never complained about the addition of any of the grills.
In April I made up mind that it was time for me to round out my collection by by adding a stick burner. Initially I leaned towards Lang & Yoder but @Steve B suggested that I check out Lone Star Grillz which wasn't on my radar. I placed an order for their 24x40 pipe smoker and started waiting.
Around 1 month ago, LSG introduced their redesigned 20" offset smokers with "crossflow" air distribution that is supposed to keep the same grate temps from left to right. The smaller size & smaller price of the new offsets seemed perfect for my small family so I called LSG & changed my order to the 20x42 model. The lead time for the new offset was only 3 weeks compared to 13 weeks for the pipe smoker so that was another huge plus. The cost of shipping was also a lot less, all told I saved a grand by changing my order so the timing of LSG's announcement couldn't have been any better for me.
It took LSG a little more than 3 weeks to build my smoker which has some upgrades (8" casters, brass ball valve, 2 temperature probe holes, gas assist log lighter, pull handle, utensil storage rack & custom art that my 13 year old daughter designed). It took 8 days for it to ship from Willis, TX to the Bay Area.
My appointment window today was from Noon - 4pm. The driver called around 3:30pm & said that he was running 30 minutes late. He didn't arrive until 5pm. Below are a few photos of the crate & a link to a short video clip of the struggle that the delivery guy had getting the smoker off of the truck. If I had kept the much heavier pipe smoker (515 lbs vs 900 lbs) I'm sure there would have been a disaster.
Its over 90 degrees today so I'm going to wait until later this evening or tomorrow morning to start tackling the crate. I'm also thinking about starting a vlog.

Name it KD
LSG is getting to be the premier stick burner manufacturer. I ran across them years ago and almost had them build me a trailer rig until I ran across one from a custom fabricator that I just had to have. I have no regrets on what I bought but LSG has been in the back on my mind ever since as a possible return visit.
