There I am, poor, innocent, unsuspecting me...........minding my own business when on these pages, with some level of repetition, various MCS enablers ply their devious trade. A few days ago some bloke posts up an ad on FB marketplace for an LSG Texas Edition, the 48" version, with some nice add ons that I would think could be very useful. A couple people make insulting offers in public (a trait not unique to FB, it's as old as time). Some make an offer not real far off his number but still lower than he likes as he edited his posting to say. I'm mulling how I've thought about an offset for some time, and the quality reputation of LSG is well known. That significant trouble maker CaptainMike posted up a discussion almost a year ago about the new (at the time) Texas edition. This model strikes a lot of the notes I've studied on fire management and smoke/air flow with it's baffle that routes the smoke and heat to the top of the cook chamber when exiting the firebox. Upshot of all that discussion is I now had a chance to get one, in a size I prefer, without the added expense of taxes or shipping, and with a discount for being "used". I put that word in air quotes because the owner only fired it up twice in the less than two months he's had it. Seems some significant life changes imposed themselves on his family and they'll be making a significant relocation move and choose not to take this hulking 800# beast along. One quick DM and we're on the phone having a grand conversation. Turns out he's fed up with FB flakes, bogus offers, and long lines of b.s. We make a quick deal on a price that suits us both and he'll even bring it to me since he has a trailer. Man it's a tough life. There was some drama to the delivery, but not really worth the story..........at least when I'm sober, all ended well.
I want to call out one particular evildoer on here who influenced this purchase the most. Sdell posted up the other day that he was interested in getting a Bronco to add to his patio, even though he really enjoys his LSG 20" offset. Of course, being one of the champions of Bronco cookers, I immediately recognized the catastrophic imbalance that would cause in the Universe. As a result, I considered it my duty to the preservation of mankind to restore that balance by adding an LSG offset to my collection. You can all thank me later for saving your collective lives.
