MCS also means "More Costco Syndrome"I do the EXACT same thing. Come in for an extension cord and leave with a chest freezer and $150 worth of meat!

mine too! That's my only saving grace! She doesn't understand what all is required to make good BBQ but she doesn't ever whine about the credit card bill Just tell her its BBQ therapy

I wonder how much money Pit members spent at Costco each year collectively. It must be over a $1,000,000. We need to have someone approach them about a AmazingRibs Pit member discount.😎

Being the kind of company they are, they might actually consider it.

My secret to surviving a trip to the Big Store is to come in with a list and a handful of coupons. You need to know your store's layout, organize your list and coupons starting with the aisle closest to the entry and go directly to each item in turn. Don't look to the side, don't browse, and most importantly DO NOT go into an aisle unless it contains something that's on your list.

Second tip: If you're going in for a gallon of milk or other small item, don't get a cart! The cart is not your friend when all you want is aluminum foil or a pack of light bulbs. The cart wants to be fed and will communicate it's hunger to you telepathically. Look at what happened to Brian if you don't believe me.... Nature abhors vacuum and empty shopping carts!

My last suggestion is to stuff yourself before any trip to any grocery store, the fuller the better. When you're hungry everything looks good.

It was impossible for me to pass the trout and those monster short ribs. even though i already had a pack of short short ribs. Thankfully i was able to pass on the USDA Prme 4 bone standing rib roast (Prime rib). it was just outside my budget at almost $100.

Northside Brian, I'm disappointed in you! We only live once, right?

Please tell me the website is lame compared to what's there. I went to the page for beef and they seem to think cows are short critters covered in wool that go "Baaaa". Unless that's just the Costco near me (not too near, Sam's and BJ's are much closer).

They just opend up a new one near me that has a whole section for nothing but fresh prime beef. It is awesome.

I do have a 4 bone choice prime rib for christmas this year. The one I did lst year was passable at best in my opinion, but everyone loved it. This year I am doing it on my PBC just for comparison. And I am a much better cook now so it should be awesome.

Found prime short ribs today in Costco - $7.99 per pound. Ok, but not a great price. However, talking to the butcher, they have cryovac 2-packs of 4-bone plates (uncut) for $3.99 per pound. Also USDA Prime!. Gonna cut the plates apart myself, vacuum bag all but 2 ribs, and cook 'em soon. Just sayin....

I went to Costco on Christmas Eve. I was in and out in about half an hour, even replacing my lost Costco card.

The key is, get there 15 minutes before they open and know what you want.

My cost control method is that I bring in my own grocery bags. No cart. If I can't carry it, I'm not buying it.

I follow that theory too when I can easily buy "too much."

I can always buy too much. I frequently forget that I am buying for 2, and frequently 1 eater.

I buy 40-lb bags of kitty litter so grocery bags don't cut it, but I agree: buy what you came to buy and leave.

            #26
Potkettleblack , I have a similar trick. If I don't want to buy too much I just ask my wife to come along. She keeps me away from the meat department by pointing to the TV's. "If you are good and don't buy any meat someday I may let you upgrade to a 70 inch screen. Go pick one out." Gets me fooled every time. No jokes about the synonyms between my wife the bag trick! Hahaha.

Wife would never even joke about a 70" TV for fear that I'd just buy it. And the meat, too.

The best times to shop at Costco are at first opening or dinner time, during mid week (Tues-Thurs), the checkout queue empties out between 5 and 6 pm.

I was in at 9:30 and out by 9:40 with a full packer, two flats of beef ribs, a parm reg strav, a 2 lbs brick of cheddar and a giant thing of paper towels. Have a plan and don't linger. Also, if you bring your own bags, you can be a lot more mobile than with a cart.
