IMHO Benton’s is much smokier than Nueske’s. I ordered Benton’s a couple years ago and without opening the shipping box it smelled like it had been in the smokehouse for 3 days!
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

I've never heard of Nueske's bacon, but I am a fan of Wright's (thank you Mosca ). Anyone know how the two compare? This discussion reminds me of the Duke's vs Hellman's vs Burman's mayo discussions.
Wright's is something I buy regularly. It is damn fine bacon. I also like the Hormel Extra Thick. (might like better than the Wright's if I'm honest, but it's close).
The Nueske Applewood Thick is maybe a platonic ideal of what bacon should be. It is smoked to a level that Wright's doesn't reach, without being oversmoked. It is meaty and streaked properly... the fat is delicious...

I'll start off by stating all bacon is good. IMHO, I would put the flavor/quality of Wright's bacon up there with Nueske's, but there is something about the taste of Nueske's that I have not found in any other bacon and puts it at the top of my list. I have also seen Nueske's called out by name on a few restaurant menus (and pleasantly surprised) around the US for what that's worth. Maybe Nueske's would like to provide a discount to pit members so more of us can try their bacon??
awsop , that is a great idea, a little discount fer the Pit. I wonder hmmmmm. I would be happy to ask them, I mean, ya know, I practically work there cuz, cuz I’ve been there twice in the last 6 months. And, I hunt not to far from there. And, and, I don’t wanna wear this out. A discount would be great, yessir.
STEbbq -- Instacart shows it available at Woodman's, delivery to Geneva, so not sure if it's North Aurora Woodman's or Carpentersville, probably the former.
jfmorris the fresh market Applewood smoked bacon I get here in Chattanooga is nueske's. I recently tried the Publix brand bacon and it was very good. And Benton's is excellent also. Benton's is only about 1 1/2 hours from me but I haven't been yet. Going to get a ham from them soon though.
Sid P - yeah, if you can get traditionally made bacon that's long smoked like this or Benton's it's hard to justify making your own. It's not a smoking experience we can easily (or at all) replicate and the cost isn't much more than buying good quality pork belly.
If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
I had an 8am dental cleaning, and on the way home diverted into The Fresh Market. Guess what? Their "Applewood smoked bacon" I saw for $9.99 online said prominently in the meat case "NUESKE'S applewood smoked bacon", so I came home with 2 pounds along with some ground chuck. I also got me a head of lettuce and some tomatoes, and plan to try some of this fancy bacon out on a BLT for lunch, to see if its all that you folk say...
STEbbq I "shopped" several Chicago area stores, and all listed the same $9.99/pound applewood smoked bacon as available for pickup as what I bought today... you just gotta walk back to the meat counter and look I think.
jfmorris well, no luck for me. I did find the applewood smoked bacon but it was fresh market brand. I guess my only option is to pay $16 a pound to have it delivered from Woodman’s. A bit of a tough sell, but maybe you can let me know if you think it is worth it over Wrights?

Ok, this is for STEbbq and Panhead John - I fried up 5 slices of the Neuske's bacon from Fresh Market this morning, in my trusty Lodge 12".
Overall, I will say that this fries up very crispy, unlike my homemade bacon. It is smokier tasting than most bacon I've had. Is it life changingly better than something like Wright's that you can find easier and cheaper? Not sure I would go that far. Don't get me wrong - its great bacon. But I don't think I would pay more than the $9.99 a pound I paid to try 2 pounds of it at the store. I am not gonna pay $16 a pound plus shipping for it in other words. And I'll probably save money and buy Wright's next time as its a good bit cheaper. Or try the Fresh Market "market style" or "peppered" bacon, both of which are $7.99 a pound or less in the same meat counter.
The shape of most of the slices I pulled out of the bag from the meat counter remind me of some of my home cured bacon. Only one "traditional" shaped slice in the skillet as you can see... I reserved that for Yvonne.
I flipped it every minute or two and later in the cook as the skillet was hotter, every 30 seconds.
Finished:
And the best thing to do when you have bacon grease in your skillet is to drop some eggs in it (I don't like 'em runny, so I break the yolks).
And.... breakfast served...
Anyway, if you two want to try it, don't let me stop you. It's great bacon. I'm just gonna stop short of saying it is LIFE CHANGING bacon. For me, that was my home made bacon - even if the wife doesn't like it as much. She liked this, but her comment was "no bacon is life changing" when I discussed the flavor with her, haha.
All that said - if I want great bacon and can't smoke it myself, I will likely be buying more of this at some point, since it is 9.99 a pound and 2 miles down the road.

Hey guys, I’ve mentioned this before, but if you want to bring your bacon to another level, try this. Right before you turn your bacon for the last time, sprinkle some Lawry’s Garlic Salt (coarse ground with parsley) and fresh cracked pepper on one side. Then flip it over for a minute, then remove it to paper towels. Man, talk about good! I always do my bacon this way since trying it 10 years ago.
Panhead John the last time I tried to buy king crab legs ay Publix they were $59 a lb. The last time I actually bought any I think they were 24.99 a lb
STEbbq my Jewel Osco has the Wrights in the 24oz. Next to the Hormel thick, which I think is about as good. The Signature Brand doesn’t look as good, but comes in similar packaging.
I would buy Wrights if was thicker. I buy Steak Cuts from Burger's Smokehouse in Missouri. 8 slices per pound. It has the advantage of being dry cured before smoking. As a treat, I pick up Nueske's from Fresh Market every now again. I just wish it was sold in slab so I could get some thick cut.
Benton's is amazing. Like you said, it's very smoky and that smoke is delicious hickory. Delicious.
I brought back 20+ lbs of it one trip when I was living in Japan. Most of it went to coworkers (who had no idea what to do with it) as gifts but I made sure to keep some for my own personal stash.
