    Nueske’s Bacon - Wow!

A co-worker was extolling the virtues of Nueske’s bacon, and I remembered people raving about it here, so I took a small road trip and bought three pounds. Damn, this stuff is good! I’ve made bacon from pork belly three times and I like it plenty, but this is much better. Of course there’s a significant price difference…

They have a big sale a few times a year. My neighbor runs up there each time and brings back a couple hundred pounds of the thick cut. It’s sold in 5 pound packages. Last trip, a few months ago, it was $5.50/lb. I always buy a couple packages. He sells a hundred pounds each time to the little tavern near hear that we frequent. Great place for a BLT or bacon cheeseburger.

That sounds like a day well spent. I’m now on their email list, and will probably do the same thing.

At $5.50 a pound I would stock up on it and fill the freezer too. At twice that price, not so much...

Now that is the stuff Candied Bacon is made of.

Good to know. Might have swing by next time I’m on my way to Rhinelander.

The thick cut applewood smoked is by far the best. Stock up now, we’ve heard bacon is going to double in price.

A friend used to gift me the Bacon of the Month Club from Zingerman's. Lots of variety arrived over the years, but the Nueske's Applewood Smoked was always the best. By far.

Great product! I used to work with one of their former sales guys doing trade shows and expos. There was a time that I was up to my ears in Nueske products. Yes, it’s expensive, but worth it when you want to treat yo self!

The cherrywood smoked is nitrate free. Also, I am a big fan of bacon fried rice. Nueske’s is too strong, IMHO.

I agree with you. I think Nueske's Applewood is a bit too smoky.

@sheilaann... benton's is VERY good. Their country ham is amazing (note it is real country ham and therefore pretty salty). In fact... I... need to order some.

rickgregory is not exaggerating about the smoke of the bacon or the saltiness of the country ham.
You can smell the smoke through the cardboard box it's shipped in.
Never had country ham before I purchased the one from Benton's on a whim... It made me a fan.
SheilaAnn Benton's is the s**t. Try some, you're overdue.

For those in Minnesota or traveling through, Mackenthuns in St. Bonifacius probably has the best Applewood thick sliced bacon I have ever eaten! Their summer sausage is awesome also. Give them a try if in area.

You can sometimes find Nueske's products in the Chicago area at Woodman's or Fresh Market (and maybe elsewhere). I highly recommend their smoked braunschweiger.

Thanks Murdy. I meant to mention that I got mine at The Fresh Market in Crystal Lake. Woodman’s would be even closer.

Amazon does sell it but only in 5lb packs or larger. BTW, Amazon has... interesting ideas on what to return when I search for "Nueske bacon":

Huskee - it's not a book, it's a cereal. And the reviews are hilarious https://www.amazon.com/Poop-Like-Cha...y%2C207&sr=1-3

I guess I am not in the habit of reading the last word of a description.... Still, my question stands.
