Saw a billboard on the way to work this morning advertising turkey for .49 cents per pound at Meijer.

Ok, just had an email from Kroger with the first turkey prices I've seen - $0.99/lb for the store brand frozen turkey, or $1.09 for the Butterball frozen turkey. Limit 2 per purchase was noted on the sale pricing. Kroger brand lists 180mg sodium per serving, Butterball lists 200mg. So both are low enough to where I would dry brine still I think.

I'm not gonna rush off and buy one, as I have usually seen these same turkeys for 49 cents per pound closer to T-day.

I'm gonna wait and see if I can pick up something better at Sam's Club or Publix. I let my Costco card expire at the beginning of the year, when they shut down their propane filling service.

right, I expect they will probably end up coming down. I'll keep my eye on things, but I don't want to wait too long, either, and not have time to adequately prepare my bird.

DogFaced PonySoldier you have until next Tuesday/Wednesday to figure it out. If you go frozen, in my experience, those big 20+ pounders take a FULL WEEK to thaw in the fridge, so you want it thawing by then. If you go fresh, you have longer.

I am kinda confused by the "fresh" turkeys I see at stores, as everywhere you read about fresh turkey, it says to use it within 2-3 days. Yet these are out for weeks. I think they are just "near frozen" but not quite frozen.
