    Wild Fork

Imma put this here, because I’m not sure where to go for advice. While WF is an online retailer, they also have brick and mortar locations. One is being built here in da LBC, roughly a 10 minute drive. I’m thinking of applying. Miss SheilaAnn needs some side hustle and wanted to get y’all’s thoughts.

    Questions I would ask:
What do they pay? What’s the employee discount? Will I be spending way more than I earn every week?

It kind of reminds me of when my ex took a p-t job at the limited. We rarely saw a nickel from her salary.

They pay at least $20.00 per hour state law

      What’s the employee discount?

It’s $18 to start (I’ll get more, because SheilaAnn) plus up to $4 per hour bonus.

Back story: I answered a survey about my most recent visit to WF. They called me back and wanted to discuss my comments! After that part was done I started asking about the Now Hiring sign in Long Beach. That’s how I know about the hourly pay and bonus.

p.s. my comments were about the attitude of the workers and selection of product at the time. I wasn’t mean, just constructive.

One question to answer, and it is a difficult one, will the employee discount lead me to buy more meat than you would normally buy thus canceling the extra income? Or, is the extra income to allow you to buy more meat?

What comes first, income or meat?
      That is the question.

I'm not sure if you're trying to encourage her or discourage her.

It boils down to working retail and dealing with people. Your customers are probably upper middle class to down right wealthy which means they can be picky and have an attitude. Do you enjoy dealing with those kinds of protein all day. I have no idea what position you want there. You’re an intelligent woman with real insight into the realities of this kind of work. If there’s a position that utilizes your knowledge and skills it could be rewarding.

But will they take Food Stamps?

First thing to ask is "do my friends get to use the employee discount?"

And do your friends get free shipping??

Go ahead and try it. If ya don't like it, you can always quit. One of your selling points is that you are well versed in outdoor cooking.

I would look closely at the benefits employees may get. From my shopping experiences at our local WF location, employees seem to be cashier and/or stocking workers. I'm sure some expertise helps, but all WF products in the stores are pre-packaged and frozen. Knowing cuts of meat may be helpful, but there is also a bunch of pre-made, frozen ideas for sale as well (pot pies and such), plus non-meat dishes as well. My point is that these stores are not butcher shops, and customers cannot ask for custom cuts of anything. Just a consideration....

I don’t know anything about working there, but I sure love being a customer of theirs! I buy 80% or more of my meat from them. So bottom line is that you might not like the job but you’ll eat well!

Our local WF store is very clean and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. With your knowledge, you would be a great addition. Having lived in Mission Viejo, driving to my office in Lakewood, your 10 minute commute is a no brainer!

Purc I live off the 605 and Carson and the location is 2nd and PCH… straight shot down Studebaker.

Team: while there may be an employee discount, 2 people can only eat so much! And I only purchase maybe 4-5 things from them on a regular basis.

Lots of things to think about! Thanks for the input. Applications are online only, so I’ll give it a shot and see where it goes.

Purc Wow, haven't thought about old Cal in years, but I have his jingle instantly back in my head: "Old jalopy's on the blink, go see Cal..." "I will stand upon my head, til my ears are turnin' red! Go see Cal, go see Cal, go see Cal!"

One final thought. It won’t hurt to apply. You don’t have to accept the job if they make you an offer.

I’d definitely do it but I’d try and meet the people you will be working with before accepting it. If you like them, then that goes a long way towards making the experience worthwhile.

Well, hopefully the hiring manager is impressive enough to meet your high standards then!

              #14
If the people seem friendly and the manager doesn't act like a jerk, go for it. You can always quit. The only question is will there be enough on the paycheck to justify the extra time at another job. If it is meeting some financial need, and doesn't impact your quality of life in a negative way, then you only benefit. Win, Win.

I think that once they got to know you, maybe proposition them to create a new position that is geared toward helping customers less experienced in the kitchen with questions about how to cook what they are buying.
