Thank you for your comments, Karchy. Regardless of political philosophy, we should all support our military even if we don't agree with many of the missions they are assigned. However, anyone who thinks war is glorious should visit a military or veterans' hospital. I served for six years at Tripler Army Medical Center during Viet Nam, and still, half a century later, remember faces, names, and stories.

Thanks Karchy, for sharing such personal and touching memories. It evoked a flood of emotions for me as well. My dad never served, but was the quintessential family man, a cattle rancher, and lover of good BBQ. He passed well before I became hooked on this new obsession, and every cook brings a sigh, and a wish we could have shared this together. We struggled to find common ground, and cooking good BBQ would have been something special.
