What part of The Temperate Isle are you from? Just came back from my daughter’s wedding in Berkshire. Not so “temperate” this summer! It was hotter ‘n hell!

Question on forum etiquette... I'm used to quoting messages and replying to those in a dedicated post, but I see you can comment on posts here and almost have a side conversation within a thread.
Is the comment function the preferred method of replying to individual posts within in a thread?

Yes sir, most of do use the comment function when replying to a post. It saves us from having to read the post a second time later on in the thread. Nice of you to ask! Just an FYI, you can’t post a pic in a comment, so if you want to include a pic in your response, you would need do that in a quote. And…..howdy from Houston and welcome to The Pit!

Thanks for confirming. Was keen to follow the etiquette and this is a totally new way of replying on a forum - quite like it though, very easy to keep track of replies to a specific point!

As you can see, a quote will display the quoted post in its entirety ... including photos. Needless to say, responding to a very lengthy post with a quote can "waste" a lot of screen space.Originally posted by dotcodotuk View PostIs the comment function the preferred method of replying to individual posts within in a thread?
Fortunately, you can also edit (as I have done with yours) or even completely delete the quoted content to avoid the problem. You merely need to make sure to leave the leading and trailing QUOTE entries (the ones in square brackets) intact if you choose the edit option.
