Eat Well and Prosper! From Fargo ND, Dan
Hi, bbqstud and welcome to the pit! My start in competition was with John Willingham in 1999. That "winning" record was a lot like fishing stories. He was an amazing man and well deserved entry into the BBQ Hall of Fame. Miss him. Only man who'd sing hello to me on the phone. Have to be proud of the Willingham's team -- this year at MIM they got 2nd in beef category!
Here on the Pit, I feel safe to say that it's BBQ and outdoor cooking first! Whatever other benefit results from good food is an added plus.
Welcome to the pit! bbqstud I'm very interested to hear more about your competition experience. I'm a newbie to the competitions and hooked. Really want to get better. I do the IBCA around Houston.
Sorry, I don't have a good bean recipe... yet but I plan to work on that. I do want to cook the beans under my rump roast this weekend and see how that goes. I hope to have some pictures of that.
My family and friends have a lot a fun out at the Colorado River. We own a few hundred acres and have a mobile home sorta park on the river. Since there’s a bunch of us go there, we tend to do a lot a pot-lucks so there’s always a boat-load of new stuff to try. In addition to that there’s usually at least one ‘Rookie’ that we can put on the hot seat and break in. Now on this particular weekend one of the guys was startin’ to date a really good looking chick that just happened to be a Masseuse. We were heading over to dinner and I was taking this salad for the clan to chow on. Now I know this recipe is gonna’ seem really simple but most things are once you know the secret. Well the Masseuse gets a couple of bites of this down her pie-hole and she says she simply “…has to have the recipe...†We’ll I’ve told you before; don’t give these recipes away for free, you gotta get something good for em in return. Well I tell her I’ll trade it for an hour massage and she jumps all over that deal! Well the massage is done, I give her the recipe and she says “That’s all there is to it?†and she’s pissed off. Good thing I got the massage first! We all still laugh about that one. By the way, my wife doesn’t like blue cheese very much but when she tried this salad she said it was a homerun. Here goes: THE STUFF
½ Head of red cabbage (Now I guess if you simply HATED red cabbage you could use the green kind, but I use the red)
1 large bottle of Wish Bone Eye-Tal-Yun salad dressing (Start with ½ of the bottle) 4 ± Ozs. of crumbled blue cheese BUILD IT
Slice or chop the cabbage and add the dressing and the blue cheese. Let it set for at least an hour so the flavors can mix. Wow! Was that easy or not? Now you can see why she was pissed! Okay so you’re and adventurer and can make this simple recipe a whole lot more complicated and a lot better…you think…so go ahead and try. I’ve used garlic, onions, Salad Supreme, pepper, hot sauce, mustard and a whole bunch of other stuff and it doesn’t make it any better. Remember; don’t trade UNTIL you get the massage!

Personally bbqstud I'm pretty sure you haven't offended anyone and if the moderators hasn't said nothing you are good. Geez... Some people needs to take a chill pill

Here's the bottom line. Stud talks big. BUT will he deliver. STUD. Give us some knowlege Start some threads. We have been waiting for you. Looking forward to what you have to give.
Here's the deal... I personally dig the STUD's whole giddy up. I like the title of his book.😆Vinny and I would have lots of fun making good grub together.
I think Vinny probably has lots of valuable information to contribute to the Pit.
But... My opinion is we, as a community, have to remember there are women and possibly children here.
We're all here to have fun and learn. Can't have fun if you have to second guess every word you type. Just keep it family friendly is all I ask. Make sure to keep my guidelines in mind, especially 2 through 4.
