Welcome! I’ve actually had a retina tear repaired; the green laser is one of the worst things I’ve ever experienced, and I’ve had a hydrocele repair (look it up). You’ve had a retina rebuild, I hope it did not include that laser.
Thanks! I hope this isn’t too gruesome: I had a retina tear with complete macular separation and leaking fluid that saturated the layers and separated them like layers of paper. It was a 1hr50m surgery under full anesthesia to repair the tear, reassemble the retina with a partial vitrectomy and a gas bubble inserted in the eye. So I’m sporting a hip green medical wristband that warns people I can’t be subjected to altitude/elevation changes or Nitrous Oxide. As they say, This too shall pass!
If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
Glad to meet you Midwest Economist ! I'm sorry to hear it took eye surgery to get you down long enough to post, but hope to see you cooking outdoors again soon!
Greetings to you as well; I spent many months across various parts of Africa during my military days: it helped me grow up (although my wife will be quick to point out that grown up doesn’t always equate to mature, so I’ll own it).
Welcome to the posting side of the Pit from the Florida Suncoast. Wishing you the best for a full and speedy recovery. Do you have a special cook planned for when the doc cuts you loose?
Thanks! Funny you should mention that; I was actually headed to Costco on a Saturday to pick up a brisket. The eye decided to “break” that Friday night, so maybe brisket is a bad choice for my return? Maybe a few racks of ribs or a pork butt, but definitely something on the LSG!

Thank you; serving was an honor. I do need to spend more time here; oddly enough, this life event was the kick in the pants I needed to start that journey!
Thanks…sounds like we followed a similar path. I was splitting hairs between the LSG and a Yoder, then I talked to Chris about his LSG offering, He got into such specific detail, and helped me with some personal touches, so he swung me firmly over to the LSG. Doesn’t necessarily mean one is better than the other, just that the LSG is right for what I want it to do.

Thanks! Fond memories of flying down to AZ in 2007 for a week long conference at a “resort” (that’s what the sign said, anyway). Great food, weather, and people!
Howdy! Ahh, Texas….I was actually scheduled to be in Purmela this weekend for the eclipse, boondocking in a field with the Badger Barrel as my cooker. Eye surgeon said NO, and NO.
