Just rejoined after realizing my membership lapsed back in 2020! I used this site, and my very dog eared/food stained copy of Meathead's book for years. Started with a Home Depot cheapo offset 20 years ago, then a Weber, then a BGE. All with the intent of having a single grill to do everything. When we moved years back to a home that had a built in gas grill, I fell prey to the ease of gas grill cooking. I still had my BGE, but mostly used it only for smoking. I wanted to get into larger, more serious cooks, so I finally splurged on a Stumps Baby XL. Absolutely love it. The BGE bit the dust after many, many years of New England winters. I missed charcoal/wood grilling though. Tried a Cajun Grill, but finally settled on an Englebrecht Braten.
So my original one size fits all intention is a distant memory. today I smoke with the Stumps, grill on gas when time is short or it's freezing and snowing, and fire up the Braten for weekend steaks and such.
One of the main reasons I'm back is to learn about the newer thermometers and BBQ fans. I once had nothing but a thermapen, but when I started smoking more with the BGE, I bought the original BBQ guru. That lasted for years and worked great with the Stumps, but my blower bit the dust...or actually 'someone' may or may not have knocked into the fan taking a shortcut across the patio with his riding mower...

I'm reaching geezer territory, but I think I'm tech savvy enough for the more modern app style thermometers. We'll see lol. Cooking in all forms is a passion - actually went to culinary school at night when I worked in NYC back in the 80's, but my career went in a different direction. Not sure what else to add here - I'm not a huge forum type, other than Kitchen Knife forums. I'm what you'd call a knife nerd if there are any other knife nuts out there.
