Question on the Ooni Koda Gas Powered Pizza Oven per Meatheads review
I have been bouncing around between this oven and the Gozney. The Gozney is more expensive, so I keep looking at the Ooni Koda 16" and wondering if anyone else has had the same issues that Meathead mentioned in his review. Other than what I quoted below, he liked the oven:
"My issues with the dial and ignition are is the ONLY reasons the Ooni Koda did not win a Platinum Medal."
MAK 2 Star pellet
Big Green Egg
Fuego gasser
Pitboss ceramic griddle
Eastman Outdoors wok burner
Ooni 16 pizza oven
Cast iron chimenea with pizza steel
Breeo smokeless fire pit, with Titan rotisserie and Titan Santa Maria style adjustable grate
Oklahoma Joe Bronco
I have the same, but newer rig. Dial is on right side, as you face it. Do not recall if it turns left or right. In any event, not an issue. My favorite Ace hardware guys think Gozney better than Ooni, but I would buy Ooni again.

I've had the Koda 16 for at least a couple years and find it great to cook with. The side ignition has presented no issues, if I were stubbornly left handed it might be. With proper preheating it will cook a fine pie. The L shaped burner is powerful so you have to be mindful to turn the pie on the stone to even out the top baking, but that's necessary on any fixed stone design. I personally wouldn't give Gozney a dime since they did me wrong when I attempted to buy their Dome cooker, but most Gozney fans will tell you I'm unusual in that. When a vendor tells me they don't care about my business I take them seriously.

thanks Spinaker! I've only used the Koda 16 a handful of times and it is a great pizza oven, as are all of Ooni's ovens. If you're comparing the Koda 16 and the Gozney Arc XL, the main difference with the Gozney is that it has thicker insulation and a thicker baking stone (5mm thicker), which results in better heat retention (uses less fuel) and faster heat recovery (less time between pies).
Like you say, that burlier construction comes at a price: the Gozney is slightly heavier and more expensive. If you don't mind waiting slightly longer between pies or you don't bake lots of pies in a row anyway, the Ooni might be the better bet. Especially now: the Koda 16 is on sale now for $450, while the Arc XL is still selling for $899. I have to admit, I prefer the Arc XL for the reasons outlined above, but is better heat retention and faster heat recovery worth $450?? That's your call.
Mike981 81 - Did you end up buying one after all, or are you still deciding?
Hey there, I have not pulled the trigger on Ooni. I am 99% sure that is what I am going to get one and last time I checked they have a bundle (oven, cover & peel and then I am also going to purchase the turner) through their website and that is what I am going to go with.
I'm kind of waiting to see if there might be a bigger discount after the holidays.
