    Deck ovens

I’m in the early stages of researching deck ovens, and need vs. wants i. how I would really use it. The very early stages, late fall, next spring, maybe never, because I want another Gozney too, and selling my 22wsm to get another summit kamado, and that cannot all happen, so..

I think I may consider looking for a used on in a restaurant auction. I would need 120, I do not plan on adding 220 into my garage, patio, or house… I want a single deck, I like that some will stack.

if you have some buyer beware, or plus’s of any, I sure would like to hear about them.

photo of what I’m kind of looking at,

My first thought is that if you're going to kick things up to that level, you are doing yourself a disservice by not getting 220v run to where you would put the oven.

That's probably because I would do the wiring myself so the cost would be minimal. Even so, I think this would be one of those buy once, cry once situations. If you have 220v available, it gives you a lot more options in the future.

From a practical stand point, a 220v oven is going to heat faster and recover quicker than the 120v one will, and be less expensive to operate.

1700 watts on 120v would be pulling 14.17 amps.
I suspect a dedicated 120v, 20 amp circuit would work.
      But don't listen to me.

Until 20 minutes ago I didn’t know what a deck oven was. I did a quick search and a bit of reading to come up with this opinion. It’s going to be more difficult to get the temps you’ll want with 110 volt. There are other option though. There are several LP gas and natural gas models available, My son has a natural gas grill that hooks to a quick coupler on his house so I know it wouldn’t need to be hard piped in. You could still move it if you wanted. I mounted the commercial charbroiler I bought on a Harbor Freight tool cart with the propane tank on the lower shelf. It works great. As I said earlier I’m a complete novice at this. I just think you’ll be disappointed with the power output from 110 volts.

Thank you for sharing your understanding on the “volt and amperage part). While I’m pretty handy at fixing things, I have zero understanding of volt and amps when it comes to home appliances and expected outcomes

It’s why I cook and stare into the ovens instead. lol

I see frustration in your future Richard. Like Oak Smoke I was a pure deck oven novice. A 110 volt machine will feel like an adult sized easy bake oven. You need, to borrow a phrase, MORE POWER! I would go with the 220 line. This is already a long term project, if I read your post correctly. You might as well do it right. It is unlike you to do things half-assedly. Why start now?

This is a project with a longer term focus for sure. While I know I could learn a thing or two with one, it would be very short sighted.

Thank you everyone,, I appreciate the feedback, I knew I could trust all of you.

I think for now I will stick with a second gozney before I look at a deck oven,, I don’t see myself running 220 to our outdoor kitchen, so it would have to be garage, which would be fine, I’m just not there yet in how I would want my garage organized and to have a third kitchen to clean & sanitize. My indoor kitchen is overwhelmed already with flour, and flats of tomatoes, large pans, hotel pans,. Stainless carts, peels, cutting boards.pizza boxes, to go containers, etc..

A dedicated 220 line to the garage area would be a selling point for your house down the road. Or if you were ever to get a plug in hybrid or electric vehicle. At worst, it's worth getting a qoute.

How many pizzas are you planning to cook at a sitting?

If I had it my way, 20 - 30, and also 1 - 2. For me, this oven would be an opening to offering different styles of baked pizza, side by side of my gozney., but more and more the second gozney is my better move
