Gozney Raising "Global" Prices September 1st - The Info is Kind of Weird

I got an email from Gozney this morning. I'll copy the text below and it has some weird logic about being able to pay the same price wherever (globally) you buy. It also has some omissions in the Accessories table - nothing about the ARC & ARC XL cover or stand. As for the ovens, only the ARC XL is showing a price increase from $799 to $899. That is why I say the logic is weird because if these increases are based on manufacturing or distribution, you would think all products would be hit, not just the ARC XL. Anyway, here is what they sent:
Earlier today we sent out a notification regarding our upcoming pricing updates in your region. There was an error with your regional table in regards to Arc XL and Roccbox pricing so please ensure you refer to the below updated table alongside a message from our CEO, Denny Bruce.

A message from our CEO on pricing updates

We truly appreciate your continued loyalty, your support has been pivotal in our journey and it’s been incredible to see our brand mission brought to life in so many backyards, patios and gardens across the globe.

I'm writing to you today to inform you of an update to our global pricing structure that will be implemented on Sunday, 1st September 2024 in your region.

Over the last few years our business has experienced rapid growth and expansion across the globe. There’s never been more transparency in pricing across global markets and as we continue to mature as a business, we've decided to move to a global pricing structure so that you can purchase our products for the same price no matter where in the world you live. Especially with further growth on the horizon and us continuing to experience ongoing fluctuations in the costs of raw materials, regional tariffs and logistics.

We remain committed to providing you with premium products that are built to last and push the boundaries of innovative design. The quality of our products and your experience whilst using them are things we are not willing to compromise on.

We wanted to notify you of these updates as early as possible to give you all the opportunity to purchase at our longstanding prices. Prices will remain at the current levels throughout July and August, with the updates happening on 1st September 2024.

Please note, here at Gozney we remain committed to providing you, our customers, with a world class retail experience and to creating trailblazing products that offer an unparalleled culinary experience that ultimately inspires you to cook different.

Thank you for being on the journey with us.

    With gratitude,
    Denny Bruce

    FAQs

    - What are the reasons for the pricing updates?
Given the rapid expansion of the business across multiple markets, as we continue to mature as a business, we've decided to move to a global pricing structure so that you can purchase our products for the same price no matter where in the world you live. Especially with further growth on the horizon and us continuing to experience ongoing fluctuations in the costs of raw materials, regional tariffs and logistics.

We remain committed to providing you with premium products that are built to last and push the boundaries of innovative design. The quality of our products and your experience when using them are things we are not willing to compromise on.

Therefore, we have made a number of updates to the regional pricing of our product range, outlined within the table below, which will come into effect on 1st September 2024.

    - What is the final order date for the current pricing?
All orders placed before the 23:59 EDT on the 31st August will honour the current pricing.

    - Are these pricing increases happening across all regions?
Yes, we are making pricing updates across all five of our key regions. Please note however the updates and timings vary across the regions. Please ensure you refer to the US table above.

    - What products are impacted?
Please refer to the regional table above for a list of all products impacted.

    - What if the product I would like to purchase is currently out of stock?
We're sorry to hear you aren't currently able to order the product you would like due to stock shortages. We aren't able to take pre-orders on future stock and won't be able to honour the old pricing after the increase however we may have other colorways available now so would recommend checking this on the site. Alternatively, you could try to purchase from our dealers - find your local dealer here.

This was the oddest email I've gotten in a while. With all the .99 pricing they must have a new marketing person. Biggest change is in the Arc XL, which I think is their top seller at the moment.

Here is what is weird about the policy. The firm is presenting prices in USD but presumably folks in Europe will pay some difference price based on the EUR exchange rate. So, the marketing benefit of $1999 is lost if it is really EUR 1840. The policy also implies higher shipping costs and tariffs in Europe or Australia will boost prices for US consumers versus just the specific region. I don’t think it really simplifies things a whole lot.

As STEbbq brings up, pricing in Europe versus the US and other regions should *NOT* be the same, as different regions implement different import tariffs as well as VAT.

I worked for a company a while back where as Director of Engineering I was responsible for jumping through all the hoops to get our device tested and compliant so we could sell it into Europe with a CE mark on it. The big problem was that the entire EU imposes a VAT of 40% on any imported product that is made outside the EU. That alone meant that a product that was made and sold for something like $399 in the US immediately needed to sell for something like the equivalent of $559 in order to pay the VAT and still have the bottom line (margin) be the same. And of course, we could only export into the EU if we had a distributor in the EU, who also wanted their cut of the pie, driving profit down and margin up even further. I don't remember where the pricing ended up being in Europe, but it was probably well over $600 US just due to VAT and other factors.

The US may have some import tariffs on goods from certain countries, but rarely do they approach what the VAT was selling into the UK and Europe under the EU rules.

I used to think it was weird many years ago when I would see that something like an Apple MacBook that sold for $1000 US would also sell for 1000 pounds in the UK, when by exchange rate alone, that Apple MacBook should have sold for 500 pounds if the exchange rate was 2:1. But I am sure VAT and import duties drove Apple's price in those markets.

My analysis of the VAT impacts on goods sold in different countries may be oversimplified, but you get the gist. The final price in different markets really can't be the same, unless you overcharge a lot of the markets that doin't have high import duties.

Gozney is HQ’ed in Utah, and I believe that is their main HQ. But, I haven’t really researched their company structure, so I might be in error about that.

Just checked and it is UK based. US HQ is Utah.

It's all about corp profits and screw the little guy.

Perhaps off-topic, but has anybody else noticed that Lays runs sales on their products,
but only if you buy 4 at a time?

              You know what Lays?
I don't need 4 bags of Tostitos so I just won't buy any.
How did that help your bottom line?

Wouldn't it make more sense to simply markdown individual bags?
              Dumb-asses.

We now return to our regularly scheduled programming.

Having my Gozney Arc XL for 2 1/2 months roughly. I’ve likely already baked 60 pizzas or dough experiments through it.

$899 for the Arc XL is still a great value, especially if the Ooni Karu is at 799, at least from my time playing with an Ooni. The flame coming from the side is a game changer in learning curve. All of their accessories are expensive and over priced, although I do have the cover and turning peel. A turning peel is a must with these ovens. I even use it now in my home oven at times.

Again, at the new price of $899,I call this a value purchase. I hear really great things about the Roccbox, but after a side flame I could not do the roccbox.
