For the Universes' sake, don't let a KBQ near an Egg

Because a KBQ is the anti-Egg. Proof: an Egg is a heavy unpowered ceramic pit that runs a long time on a single load of charcoal, the KBQ is a relatively light stainless steel uninsulated pit that runs on power and wood that has to be replenished regularly. Egg is relatively fragile to heat and physical shock, KBQ almost invulnerable besides the control box. Egg doesn't need attention once fire and meat are set, KBQ needs frequent refueling. There's probably points some I missed. This all just struck me listening to a coworker talk about his Egg. FWIW, the consensus at work is that my KBQ makes better 'Q. :-)

In my humble opinion an all wood cook always produces better bbq vs. charcoal or lump.

Agreed as well. Wood rules. 💪

DWCowles The all wood fired cookers do produce great Q when properly ran. I am right with you!

If Everyone thought all wood cooks always made the best BBQ... there would never be any other kind of cookers used in competitions.🤔

First of all I didn't say everyone, that's my opinion only. Second of all I don't compete and don't plan to.

DWCowles ... you made an innocent startement, and so did I. No harm no foul...👍

I have both. BGE for versatility, KBQ for smoke. I'm happy! I do however keep them about 50' apart to avoid feuding.

EdF - How do you think the flavors compare for smoking. I have an Egg and about to pull the trigger on the KBQ. Based on everything i've read, KBQ is the best of the best, of the best... but not spoken to someone who can compare first hand. thanks!

The KBQ smoke is noticeably better. Doesn't mean the egg gets retired, though.

I'm guilty, my Egg & KBQ sit next to each other in the garage !!. I would love to add a straight up stick burner pit like a Lang or Jambo to the mix, but still trying to figure out a way with the shipping costs and all..

Spinaker Frozen Smoke I have thought about having one local built, but would really like to have the exact proven build of one of the popular makers. At least then I can read on tips from other users on here.

I would check online for designs. Some websites will sell you drawings and pans for building just about anything. Might be a good spot to check. You can also customize while starting with a good base.

Agree on the plans. I bought a set for a gravity feed and they are very detailed and good. Just having problems with my welder right now. As I get further into the build I will be adding pictures and details.

My KBQ is parked right beside my kamados. They all get along peacefully.

I officially have both now. The Egg will be used for that direct heat requirement such as hamburger and steak searing. Other than that, everything to the kbq.

Congrats on the new KBQ seems to be a trend. I love both my KJ and. KBQ. Different results but both produce excellent food.
