    cookbox baffle shape

First, I apologize if this has been covered before, but searches with kbq, vent, baffle in all combinations didn't help.

My KBQ was in storage for well over a year, so I decided to do a deep clean before using again. There was a pretty good thickness of built up on the interior, which the easy-off removed without incident.

Except now with the nice shiny interior, I can see that the baffle openings on the back wall are not uniform. Before, the black soot etc,hid the variation. The gaps range from less than 1/4" to over 1/2", with the deepest baffle is about in the middle.

Was this variation as built? or did mine get deformed with stuff banging around in the box. What depth do you see on your pits?

thanks in advance for any help,
    Tony

As I recall the louver openings are different from top to bottom, but have not measured them. I believe this is to distribute the hot air to achieve balanced temperatures in box. Getting the information from Bill at KBQ is the best advice. If you do get the louver opening measurements from Bill, please post them.

Can you post a picture of what you are talking about and then I can compare it to my KBQ, or at least take a look at it and tell you if it look normal to me.

For Spinaker, the picture below shows my situation. it wasn't noticeable until I cleaned it. the upper 2 aren't much different from the lower 2. the perspective is misleading.

I sent a note to Bill Karau who promptly responded:
"I shoot for about half an inch. But it's not critical. Just try to make them all the same.
              With kind regards,
              Bill Karau"
