Hi Everyone! Finally some pics of the first cook this last weekend. The KBQ sure put out some great ribs. As a beginner with notebook and lessons in hand it was a very busy afternoon - managing the fire, the ports, the size of wood, so on and so forth. I see its going to take some time to get used to this new cooker which I fully expected. In short LOVE IT !!

Great to hear you like it. First cook looks great. Word of advice, you really don't need to worry about the poppets. Just run them wide open and worry about it later. The most important thing is your coal bed. Build that and let it rip. Let us know if you have any specific questions. The biggest thing is to play around with it and have fun.

Stepping in for eschmid2. Just purchased his KBQ, picked it up Saturday. 2.5 hours away. Wood not an issue here in orchard country. Unit in great condition. I think he really liked it, but for the fire babysitting. He has a big LSG coming, making room.
Somewhere I read that these rigs have a serial number. If so, where?

I don't think any serial number.
First test burn today, no food. Slick system. Parsimonius with wood, even 30 year seasoned apple/cherry.
I helped an elderly widow some, snowplowing, etc. Asked her about some wood she had in a covered walkway, willing to buy. She gave it to me. Passed about a year ago.
eschmid2, will round off the edges on your carrier. Prolly where you got scratched. The holes in the angle iron are great place to store fire poker. Handy, away from heat.
