My Thermoworks is getting a little worse for wear. Before I oder a new one, is there anything currently on the market that works better to monitor the KBQ's cooking air temp from that little hole?
I believe any digital thermometer of a similar style will work.
I rarely use the thermometer on the top. I have an SnS-500 with four probes - I run two probes through each upper corner holes. That way I can monitor grate and meat temps.

I put my FireBoard probe in the exhaust temp hole. Just keep in mind the grate temp and the exhaust hole temp are off by about 20 F. I find that the exhaust temp hole reads about 20 F cooler than the grate temp.
Honestly, I marked on my dial where I should set the KBQ. And then I let it rip, I rarely ever use a temp probe for the pit temp anymore. I will check the exhaust temp every once in a while, just to make sure things are still going smooth, but for the most part I just set it and let the KBQ do the work.
Thermapen ONE is the best overall instant-read thermometer that performed better than the other 22 thermometers on their list across their tests. Testers love its accuracy, speed, ease of use, and longevity.
