Get the wind shields. Keeps the flames from being blown out during a windy day.

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
I will throw in with the advice already given, a big of Terry cloth dish rags that you consider disposable, unless you like gunking up your washing machine with bits of burnt food and grease. I use them for cleaning and wiping the flattop when cleaning and seasoning. A wet rag with a spatula or tongs is VERY useful for cleaning the hot griddle. Then a clean one for wiping with oil before calling it a day. I buy a big bag for like $20 every other year at Sam's.

Great tip on getting the towels at Sam's. I just looked online and my club has a pack of 60 terry towels, size 17x14 for about $25. Are those the type you are talking about?

OC Sandy yes that package looks like what I am talking about. I just keep them in a bin with my grilling stuff in the garage, and keep 1 or 2 in with the griddle tools. I'll usually keep one for the next cook if just used to oil and wipe things down, then kill that one at the next cook when I use it with steam/water to clean food debris off the griddle.

Panhead John Went to hook up the fuel gauge and it didn't allow any gas through. Guess I'll have to put a new one on my list.

Retired, living in Western Mass. Enjoy music, cooking and my family.
Current cookers Weber Spirit 3 burner with a full insert griddle added. A 22" Kettle with vortex, SnS and a Smokey Joe. The most recent addition is a Pit Barrel Jr with bird hanger, 4 hooks and cover. ThermoWorks Smoke 2 probe, DOT, 2 ThermoPops and a Thermapen MK4. A Thermoworks RFX Gateway 2 probe meat thermometer.
Don't overthink. Blackstone, spatulas and scraper for cleaning. Squirter bottles. One for oil and one for water. Watch FlatTop King videos on cleaning and maintenance. You'll be all set.
I should note I have the full insert for my Spirit.
I see folks are adding items for propane. I'm bulk installed to my 500 gallon underground tank. Open valve push ignitor. Never run out, auto fill from the supplier.Last edited by RichieB; May 17, 2026, 07:38 PM.
