    Weber Slate Flattop

Thinking of buying a weber slate flattop, what are your thoughts on the weber vs the other brands?

I think the Traeger griddle is most comparable to the premium slate.

The Traeger Flatrock griddle is more expensive than most griddles, but unique features and build quality set it ahead of many competitors.

For the basic slate, the Pit Boss griddles are possibly better. Panhead John would know more.

Today was my first cook on the Sierra three burner griddle. Sierra is Pit Boss’s name for the Walmart only version of their Ultimate Griddle series. (filedata/fetch?id=1280940&d=1661387731) First up was the burn in. Per the manual I turned all three burners to the max and let it ride for 15 minutes. This sucker gets HOT.

Huskee did an excellent and very thorough review of that griddle in case you missed it. Looks to be one of the better ones out there. He gave it a Platinum Medal.

I’d agree that it is an excellent choice.

I have not used a Blackstone, but I do like the 30" Weber Slate, and I really like it. We have had a lot of rain over the last week or two and rain got under the cover, but there was no rust.

As mentioned above, I've used the Slate (36" version) and Traeger's Flatrock extensively, and reviewed both of them in-depth. Both are excellent. If I had to pick between one or the other it'd be hard. Slate does not need seasoning, but if you choose to season it again for good measure it's much simpler and quicker than the Flatrock. The Flatrock on the other hand is a little less pricey but built like a tank, yet needs full seasoning since its cooktop comes bare and rough. Easy to season, just takes time. Slate has a cabinet, Flatrock does not. Both have modular end shelves for flexibility with tools. Both are serious cookers.
